Apprently two rail employee received minor injuries only.

Clean-up is proving to be difficult, partly because of location, and also because train was reportedly loaded with ammonium nitrate, I assume mostly bound for the explosives factory in Kal.

Also over the weekend, there was a major de-railment of an iron ore train just north of Tom Price, which has virtually stopped all of Rio Tinto's ore shipments to the port. From the pics I have seen, this one looks to be possibly even worse than the one east of Kal, though Iron Ore is a lot easier to clean up than AN.

AN is dead easy to clean up, spray a bit of diesel around, wire up a det and booster, stand well back, press the button and poof! the mess is gone!

Yep a friend who is ARG is up there to fix the line. He will be getting really sick of derailments lately, eating into his fishing time.;)
AN is fairly easy to clean up, just as long as it does not get mixed with any petroleum product as this may not cause it to explode but will make it volatile then any significant impact or ignition source could make it go up.
People panic a bit when they hear these accidents but most of them can be cleaned up fairly quickly.
Possiblly the best solution where it is is to dig a big pit and bury it, or truck it to a tailings dam.
This scenario is just happening way to often.:(

I'd say it's very lucky that the Indian Pacific wasn't the first train through. Hate to image if that was carrying passengers.

Abso-bloody-lutely! I think it would have made Granville look small. Oddly enough, I've been reading the reports of the Glenbrook crash between the IP and an interurban train over the last couple of nights at work.
