Gday everybody...well after tracking down an Isuzu county that was classed as a repairable write off after bending the chassis..i made sure i asked the guy what motor and he said 3.9lt turbo Isuzu 85 model...are you sure ? yes defiantly an Isuzu 3.9
so after locating it, organizing with the owner to have a look at it, organizing for the day off work to drive down to see it...driving down about 2 hours (doing 80kms as a P plate driver) using $60 diesel ..i got down the coast to find its a Defender not a county (Defender stickers on the doors, rego sticker plainly saying 1995 LR wagon) with a land rover 300 Tdi NOT an Isuzu 3.9 turbo diesel...
Rang my mate, who knows the owner and the owner says its defiantly a 3.9lt Isuzu...How can someone mix this up ?? my mate was shocked to hear that it wasn't a Isuzu as the owner guaranteed him it was..
This bloke should never be aloud to own a landy if he couldnt even tell the difference between a Tdi and isuzu...apparently he has owned it for ages and has always thought it was an Isuzu motor
Well that was my wasted day !
very annoyed..was really hoping to join the Isuzu club.
Rant over
Cheers Adrian

Very sad, I do know of a stage 1 4BD1 engine becoming available with the LT95 bellhousing, so you could always fit that. Unfortunately you would have to spend much more than $60 in diesel to go and get it. Lives in NSW. :(

Hard luck. It's amazing the number of people who dont know these things.
I have been told in the past by so called car enthusiasts, about the Isuzu diesel in Defenders, Peugeot diesel in Defender, and of course the BMW diesel in Defenders (Td5):(

I didn't know the County came with the turbo version of the 3.9 Isuzu anyway - so if the original claims had been correct would it have had a different engine or a turbo just plonked on the standard engine.

AFAIK it didn't. The turbo was fitted to the 6x6.

I've heard of a few around that claim to have come with 4BD1-T. With the similarities in the two engines, it's not impossible to imagine that there were a few special orders.
Duck, duck.
