Newtown Police are seeking information about the owners of WWII and Gulf War medals recovered in a drug raid.

The items include german cameras and 80 year old street directory and a flute.

Police are appealing for anyone who can help find the owners of the valuables to call Newtown Police on (02) 9550 8199 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

it never ceases to amaze me at how low some scum bags are, to steal war medals....thats gotta be the lowest act

do they have the recipients name in them or some sort of identifying marks....my service medals have my name in them but maybe the old war ones dont :(

There are two ways of doing this and you should use both. One way is to use this web sight listed below and the second is to report it to your State body of the RSL who should with a bit of luck be able trace the member.
Another way is report the matter to Dept of Vet Affairs, On the back or on the edge of each medal will be the Regimental details of the person that the medals were issued to .

my issued medals have name and service number listed on edge, engraved in.
i believe this was done on back or side of all ORIGINAL medals.

the WW2 medals appear to be minitures and therefore wont have engraving
or when a long set usually are repllicas purchased and "court mounted".

I do believe that if you steal something like this (medals or personal stuff that has no true value to others) you should be liable to additional offences....something along the lines of "damaging/stealing to cause distress" or something like that... eg: if you steal a video camera and dont somehow leave or return the film or memory card of johnnys first birthday etc..guilty (bad luck if you didnt know, you shouldnt have stolen it!)
same for still shots, computer hard drives etc.. they want to nick it...make em pay for the heartache etc too.... and make it "intending or recklessly indifferent to" as well...no excuse then...

maybe then there would be 2nd thoughts on what they nick/damage etc...
take the tele, the video etc, leave the tape....tele/video -they can be replaced but whats on tape cant...

thats my opinion anyway....

(maybe the way they do it in saudi arabia is the way, get caught stealing once, 1 hand cut off, twice, other hand gone...far as I know no third time offenders.....!!):D:D
