Once again it is something that us taxpaying childless single people won't share in. If that helps your concerns.

depends how much you earn, not much but something. Although it will probably take the form of an offset rather than cash like everyone else:
FROM April, workers earning up to and including $80,000 will get a $950 tax bonus;
THOSE earning $80,000 - $90,000 will get $650;
PEOPLE earning between $90,000 - $100,000 will receive $300.

Hmmm.
Once again it looks like self funded retirees are the only group to get NOTHING .
I have lost 30% plus of my assets and am trying to minimise spending .
As I am under pension age, Nothing last time and it looks like nothing this time as I am not full time working, although I have done work recently.
I had a look at the Newstart conditions and you have to be literally on the bone of your whatever to qualify, so there is no value in thrift in this country. Maybe I should have spent everything I accumulated.

Philip.....I know how you feel as have friends in the same situation.
Work hard all your life and do with out some luxury to gain some assets then at retirement have to stugle as most lost a heap in market crash. Then look at some others (Not All) worked and played hard now have nothing to show and get the help. Then I see some of them playing the pokies etc:mad:

Especially because these payouts cost you (and me) money, or $2000 for every man, woman and child. (i read this somewhere cannot find where though)
I won't get anything either being outside the income category.

So how are they going to determine income - last years taxable income - income in the week of payment, what?
I am on half pay - so is it based on my current pay or my what my pay should be?
Any ideas?

Workers Tax Bonus
Tax Commissioner Michael D’Ascenzo today announced that work is underway to ensure the Tax Office can start paying the Australian Government’s tax bonus from early April 2009.
“At this stage we believe most eligible people won’t have to do anything to receive the proposed payment,” Mr D’Ascenzo said.
“By using information in people’s 2007-08 tax return we will work out who is eligible and the best way to get the payment to them.
“Most people have already lodged their 2007-08 return with us, but if you haven’t, don’t leave it any longer.”
The proposed tax bonus will only be paid to those who have their 2007-08 return in by 30 June 2009.
“Our e-tax service will remain available for those who want to do their own return online, or people should contact their tax agent.
“We will send the payment to the address or bank account people nominated as their preference for the 2007-08 tax return.
“You will get your payment faster if we have your bank account details,” Mr D’Ascenzo said.
To ensure money goes into the right bank account or the cheque is delivered to the correct address in early April 2009, people should contact the Tax Office by the middle of March if they need to change address or bank details.
“If you have not provided bank details in your return, you may provide them now so that we can pay the bonus directly to your bank account.
“If we don’t have your bank details, we will send a cheque to your latest postal address,” Mr D’Ascenzo said.
People can call the Tax Office on 1300 686 636 if they need to change or provide their details.
Those who use a tax agent may also wish to use a different address or personal bank account for this one-off payment.
“If your agent manages payments and correspondence for you, we won’t necessarily have your personal bank account or postal address details.
“If you want us to make this payment into your personal bank account or send a cheque to an address other than the one you usually use through your tax agent, call us on 1300 686 636.
“Because many people use a tax agent we are working with tax agent representatives to ensure the payments process works as smoothly as possible for everyone.
“We are setting-up a working group with representatives from across the agent industry.
“We will ensure more information and updates are made available to people, including more details on our website soon.
“Of course, the arrangements we are putting in place to make the tax bonus payments are contingent on the supporting legislation passing through Parliament,” Mr D’Ascenzo said.

Just as a macabre observation.
A friend's dead mother was given $2000 in October.
When he queried it with Centrelink he was told that it was OK and the estate could keep the money as she died after the cutoff point.
Now that money was not spent by the recipient straight away.

All the info is available on the ATO website but in summary it's based on you 2007-08 taxable income as per your notice of assessment

People whingeing about being given money.....
I can see where you are coming from Philip A, I'd be a bit pieved kinda like the fact that 28% of my wages go to my Ex, then last time she scored $1000 per kid, $900 per kid to send them back to school and shes only on a part pension, she works for a local council which gave her a large pay rise and bonus and then just after recieving all that asked if I could go halves in my sons school gear and camp as if I couldnt then he couldnt go or have most of the stuff he half needed but deffinately wanted.
Oh did I mention that we got nothing as we both work and are just above the pov line where our mortgage is 2/3's of our income.
I will accept my $950 with open arms and so will mrs mc but in saying that, being a dead beat single mum with boyfreind but claiming the bare min on the pension to keep the health care card will get...........nearly $5k from my calculations plus BF's $950 so near on $6k.
Maybe I should leave work, go on the dole, drink burbon most of the day and procriate as much as possible to fill the world with more of the dead beats that are already getting massive amounts of hand outs.
I thought they didnt want to have people in unemployment, if you were unemployed now, why the hell would you go back to work

it is an illusion, your taking $950 and thinking thats great, but in reality the whole cost of this 'recession buster' is about $2000 for every man woman and child.
They are taking 2000 and giving you 950!
That is the annoying point.
I'd prefer the money spent on infrastructure projects.
the cash bonus is BS and just a political stunt that the taxpayer pays for... thanks for nothing.
i get nothing regarless:p

What the focus should be on, is supporting Australian manufacturing instead people will spend the money on big TV's and all the money will end up in China's pocket. I heard some guy on the radio say he was going to throw a party down the coast and hire strippers and have a party on the government.
I am so glad I can pay my tax each week for that guy!!!! sorry I will get back in my box now.

ok now it is suggested to be a lot higher:
Turnbull says government wants new debt of $9500 a head (http://www.theage.com.au/national/turnbull-says-government-wants-new-debt-of-9500-a-head-20090204-7xth.html)
maybe not 9500 but somewhere on the higher end....
Just trying to hide this recession with more debt just like the last bonus:
Australian retail trade rises (http://business.theage.com.au/business/surprise-jump-in-retail-sales-20090204-7xa3.html)
It's an illusion, hide the recession with heaps of government debt for future generations to pay off.
Sounds like a good idea to me...
