Hey Guys,
I have just brought 2000 td5 defender ute which has a blown motor, So my first idea was to put a td5 back in, but they seem to be a very expensive motor and maybe not that reliable :wasntme:. They next throught was a isuzu this seems to a very reliable and reasonably powerful with a turbo. Also what is involved in doing this transplant.
Any other repowering (must be diesel) options would be great.

If you want it to be legal, you will need to get it engineered, and that will mean amongst other things that the engine you decide to fit has to be newer than the car, and retain all of its emissions stuff.

When I swapped the V8 for the 4BD1T, I had the ID tags from the truck I wrecked to get the engine. The engineer looked at the tags and saw that it listed ADR30. This is all he wanted to know about the engine. He hardly even glanced at the engine itself.

cool link. Nice work!!

What age was the truck?

The engineer I used, and keep bothering for other ideas, was adamant that in QLD if I was to swap engines it had to be newer than the car. He wouldn't entertain the idea otherwise.

Maybe earlier cars arent as strictly controlled?

there was a TD5 engine with warranty (12 months) on ebay a couple of days ago on ebay. Being sold by a wrecker. Out of a D2, I think he was asking $6.5K. This may be cheaper than engineeringing a different engine.
