Have things changed much over there? I notice that the guy on the shovel had a suntan. Van der Merwe sat in the car.

I think the comment left on Youtube pretty much somes it up

This is why the beaches are now closed. This is why Botswana parks charge so much. This is why there are tracks all over the place. This is why broadcasters are get nervous when agreeing to broadcast any show with a 4x4 in it. This is the type of behaviour that makes us 4x4 guys look like morons - It is utterly unbelievable! Why on earth did you do it? And Kyknet, why on earth did you broadcast it? Shame on you all. signed.. Andrew St.Pierre White and every other human who respects Planet Earth.

hmmm

[1] I like the accent

[2] nice to see the wheel travel on the leaf sprung Toy-motor - NOT

[3] didn't look like there was any air let out of the Toy-Motor tyres

[4] best way to straighten a bent track rod is to slide it into the highlift jack handle, this provides leverage and stops it being bent at a secondary spot. Also, use the tow ball as a fulcrum, as it doesn't have sharp edges to kink the rod.

Up until a bit over a year ago, I worked for a South African owned mining company. The attitudes on display in that clip were just so typical of those of many of the South African "managers" that I encountered in the job (not all of them - there were a few good ones scattered amongst the multitude of arrogant tools).

Was my first and only experience working for a South African company.

But then I've noticed that you don't have to look to far to see similar examples of intelligent 4 wheel driving in our own back yard. There's one particular web-site that gets mentioned on here occasionally ...............

I found the best way to straighten a bent steering rod was to get 2 good pairs of multigrips, put them closed HARD on either side of the bend , then hook a winch to the bend and pull with the other car.
Or as I did once on Mt Walker put the bend behind the tow ball, braced onto the towbar and a few guys pull.

*******....

4X4 Gurus my @rse!!:mad::mad::mad:

Anyone notice them snatching off the LR tow ball and then using the same ball to hang their snatch block for winching the LR back on to the track? WTF??:no2:

If these idiots are gurus then the rest of us are rocket scientists and capable of driving a space shuttle.

Obviously in Sth Africa one needs a blonde bimbo at their side when ripping up the terrain in a pointless exercise of vehicle thrashing.

The best way ive found to straighten a bent track rod ive found is find a tree and belt the bend right on the tree , ive done this plenty of times with great sucess;)

Look, I reckon that the guy it was a PR stunt for Jurgens caravans that went wrong.

Something like the Kedron stunt to Cape York.

You might have noticed that the Jurgens was badly damaged along one side early in the video, suggesting to me that it was a PR unit that had previously been over and was expendable.

Personally I don't see what you lot are rabbiting on about, I've seen 4WD Monthly vids worse than that.

I just see 4WDrivers stumbling there way up a track not suited for a caravan, happens every weekend here and overseas, you just have to look at any 4WD/Motorcycle adventure video, so why pick on this one and not the others.

Being a South African myself and being able to understand what they are saying, I have to agree that they are a bunch of idiots. I did Baboons Pass with my parents years back in a 110 defender and just looking at the terrein you just would take anything in there that isn't at least lifted in some way and has bigger tyres. You wouldnt even take a caravan up the Sani Pass, which is a picnic compared to baboons pass. They mention in that clip that no animal was hurt or anything, but theyre destroying the terrein. On top of that, the say the that this was done by n' "professional 4wd team" and that you shouldnt do it yourself, but clearly they must have other ideas of the term professional.
It just really annoys me when I see something like this, it makes the South Africans look like idiots, and its not like that at all. 4wding is very popular over there and it always will be, and people do things safely there just like over here. But clearly these idiots are just p***ing everyone off, by having no regard for safety and above all the terrein.
