Thought I would share with other defender/county owners the Child Anchor Point Bar we had installed in the defender today.

We were ment to get a grab bar but it didn't turn up so Ian found another way around it.I must say they were very helpful and professional.

The company that fitted/supplied the bar are Auto Extras 39-41 Butterfeild st Herston QLD 4006 Ph 3252 3809 Fax 3257 1459 Tollfree 1800 811 626 or email sales@auto-extras.com.au .They also certified and fit a modification plate in the engine bay.

The grab bar was going to be $575 including gst fitted/modification plate and the bar we got was $385 including gst fitted/modification plate.

They also modified the cargo barrier to allow the teather straps to connect to the anchor point.

Thanks for that, and into The Good Oil.

I've got a very similar bar in the 110. I didn't realise there was a difference between that and a crab bar.

Iam not sure what Cat5 cable is Fraser but if your talking about the silver cable in the engine bay thats the EGT cable or if its the blue wires then thats my electronic rustproofing system.

So if I had to install 2 anchor points in a Puma, I would need this piping? Don't the seats just anchor to the rear wall above the tail gate somewhere? Assuming there is no cargo barrier of course...

I thought seats just anchored to the seat belt as long as it had an inertia real on it, shows how much I know.....

If you send a PM to JohnR he has a PUMA and his are mounted on the floor so he maybe able to help. He is the only one I know of with child anchors in a PUMA.

We had the bar installed were John had his PUMA done thats how I knew who to ring.

You can also have a read of this thread http://www.aulro.com/afvb/90-110-130-defender-county/55517-defender-baby-restraint-info-need-feedback-2.html

You can do it yourself but not legally and for your childrens saftey better to get it done by a pro and also get the Modification plate to say its been done legally.

Don't know about Puma Defenders, they might come standard with the integral seat-mount fitting for UK child restraints - which afaik aren't yet approved here, but none of the previous Defenders, et al came with anchor points for child restraints.

It is worthwhile checking out the Exmoor Trim website, I think they designed the third row seats for the Puma, and I think they are designed for child restraints, athough again, probably not Australian standard.

Veh-Quip in Ferntree Gully fitted three anchor points in our 110 and provided an engineering certificate.

This is a good thread. The bar looks good, although it is a bit low but if they have certified it then I guess it must be ok.

A key with this is that these solutions are all state based. Ie QLD people have to get them certified in QLD which may affect certification of products from other states.
