I've got two replicas of my 1:1 on the go - one at 1:24 scale

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/02/1187.jpghttps://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/02/999.jpg

you can see the build at this Forum (http://www.bitpimps.lixlink.com/pages/phpForum/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=10073&start=0)

and i've just started on a 1:10 version - I'm still deciding whether to go for a leaf or coil setup, but either way i'm using my Axial AX10 for the basics.

using this chassis

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/02/1188.jpg

and this body from Kamtec UK, but in ABS rather than lexan so I have a proper hard body

well done mate - you're steaming ahead :)

Much prefer the new bar, tuber's never look right on a landrover imho. The new one has much more beef to mount the Warn onto.

You've got some fantastic skills for someone new to radio control - railway modeler? I'm going off the brasswork - very nicely done.

You said you're looking at beadlocks - 1.9's or 2.2's? If i remember rightly the 2.2's are a bit big for that body...
What axles and transmission are you going to go with?

Also - just as a heads up in case you or anyone else watching the thread missed them - have you looked at the Axial SCX10 as a potential base? They've just been released, and for a scaler on 1.9's they make a perfect starter - you can easily spend much more gathering components.

Scale = 1:8.5 not 1:10
You can de-chrome the plastic with oven cleaner, you end up with genuine black plastic instead of painting it.
There is a bloke in Germany making aluminium chassis rails and rear bar for them, he also does them for a 110 which people are doing as a cut & shunt of two bodies.
There is a bloke in Sweden I think, that makes the badges.
Tamiya TLT-01 axles are the perfect width for this body.
You need to run 1.9 wheels and RC4WD makes a tyre they call Thrasher that is the right size BFG Mud Terrain.

that would explain the beautiful work on that snorkel quite nicely :)

The d40 are a fantastic axle - i'm actually considering the scale 'yota axles or the t-rex 44's if the ax10's are too wide for the body i've got coming. the 'yotas are my pick for the leaf mounts, but the t-rex might fit better with the series' narrower track width..

btw - I just bought that winch off ebay - will let you know how it works out.

That is the most incredible model I've ever seen.

I think I know the answer, but these things have to be custom-built, don't they?

Do you build to order? Interested in a commission?

Yes, They are a custom build, and without trying to scare you off, can be expensive. The other thing to remember is that (like real land rovers) maintenance is as much a part owning it as driving. there's always some tinkering to do, suspension to tweak, bearings to replace, etc...

I guess what i'm saying is:
If you want one, you really should build it yourself! Start by reading up a bit, looking around, then take the plunge :)

Although if you are dead set on someone to build a commission - Stephen definitely looks to have the skills!

Thanks for the compliment, I'm well pleased with it.

Steve.

Landy110
12th February 2009, 12:40 PM
Well I've done the maths and OUCH !!
I bought all my gear when the Aus dollar was on par with the Greenback but it is now much lower.
$1 US = $1.53 AUS
So a quick tally of parts ie:-
Shocks
Axles
Wheels & tyres
Drive shafts
Gearbox
Motor
Adds up to about $1200 Aus
Then you need the battery, speed controller and radio at about $300 AUD
And the body for about $120 -$150 delivered
Then I would have to make the chassis and bullbar !

Let me know if you are still interested.:(
As a thought, there is one seller selling the body for about $70 plus delivery on ebay at the moment. Perhaps you could buy that and wait for the Oz dollar to come back up and then send me a PM but you would have to be patient.

Having said all that, tolinja is doing one and may well be onto a cheaper local supplier for similar parts and may be able to help out but the parts I used work for the scale suspension system etc.
Steve.

rmp
12th February 2009, 01:28 PM
So all up looking at close to $2k. Not cheap as you said, but then again, it's clearly top quality. I'll think about it ;-)

Landy110
12th February 2009, 04:53 PM
There is another option.
Check out the link below, this is the mob I got the gearbox, drive shafts & shocks from and the link takes you to a "running chassis" that has most of the gear that added up to $1200 Aud for about $820 Aud delivered.
If you scroll down you will see it optioned with the blue scale shocks and four link suspension, I don't know if this would cost more than the standard leaf configuration but it's worth looking at.
It would have four link suspension front and rear where mine has a panhard rod on the front.
You could buy that and then make adjustments to make it fit the body or strip it for the parts and it would work out cheaper than buying the parts.
If you want to buy one I'll tell you what options I recommend in the way of axles, wheels & tyres to fit the body. The downside is that my axles which cost $320 US came from a different supplier and have differential where these ones don't seem to. Mine can be dismantled easily and locked but I'm looking at making a Maxi drive style diff lock for them.

Awesome job guys.

I don't know if this has been posted but its a great job too.

Defender 110 project - RCCrawler.com Bulletin Board (http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php't=151104&highlight=land+rover+scaler)

I am thinking of building a Series 1 107 ute body to fit a Tamiya CR-01 body.

Or maybe an FC101 not sure yet.

Does anyone have any idea where I can get all the specs of these 2 cars so I can make up some scale drawings.

I might have a spare Magnum 360LB motor and a super rooster lying around somewhere if your interested.

It looks fantastic.

I have some 1/10th scale series bodies that I will be putting on my custom clod or jugg chassis when I get around to it.

resurrected the thread to post my first trial run.

YouTube - Radio Control Land Rover 90

It's still very much a work in progress - the ax10 axles are too wide for the body, I don't like droop suspension much and my brasswork is atrocious... so there is plenty of room for improvement :)

Cripes, thats all beaut stuff.
I would be into it myself if you can buy a Disco body ?
Anyone seen one advertised ?

I used to make RC planes back in the 50's, had great fun.
Can't remember now what the internals were but I do remember that I
used Frog 500 engines.

One of the interesting things I built was a model powered by a Ram Jet
engine. It sounded fantastic, like a WW11 Buz Bomb.
It wasn't RC tho, it was too fast, so it was a control line model.

Anyway, what about a Disco body ?
Cheers.
