Hi all, A mate of mines hilux broke down today. while towing it the front right brake started smoking badly with a foul stentch now he said he was "holding the brakes" the whole way back(5kms).
would this make them smoke? or is there something else wrong? theres no obvious leaks.
any thoughts?
Cheers Steve

Yes, your mate has overheated the pads.. Most likely warped the discs and the pads will need replacement...
He may have burnt the seals in the calipers too, and it will definitely need a fluid change and pads minimum.

It would be the grease burning in the hub, like Tombie said he's up for some bucks. Pat

what Tombie Said x2.
+ hub seal, plus bearing clean + repack + replace brake caliper bolts + replace rotor (usually smoking them up will warp them beyond saving) + replace the rotor mounting bolts if thats how its setup and the studs if its not.
