View Full Version : Assist Fire Victims

I am prepared to co-ordinate a monitary appeal, on behalf of members of this forum, to assist the victims of the Victorian fires. In situations such as this these, appeals are usually matched dollar for dollar by the Government.
Please indicate your support.

Do we want it as shown from AULRO?
Why not as long as the people in need get it.

Well I,ve tipped in already, but happy to do again thru an AULRO donation. I think the 4WD community will pull together in Vic - as they have done in the past- and help out physically. I want to be part of that too.

The Pajero Club is organising clothes.
By now you'll have seen the carnage and read of the terrible and tragic
deaths, so many people are have also been left homeless and destitute.
So let's do something to assist quickly. If you can bring along some
items of clean wearable clothing or children's toys to the next meeting
(Wednesday, 18th Feb) we'll get them to either the Salvos or St Vinnies
for distribution in affected areas.
These items do not need to be new but clean and useful.
The address is:
7:30 for 8PM
Glen Waverley Bowls Club,
690 Waverley Rd,
Glen Waverley
Victoria, 3150

Ian,
I agree 100% we should get behind these poor people and do what we can.
I am just really wondering if it makes sense to set up a separate fund.
The government already have a fund available for people to donate to:
* Donations to the Victorian Bushfire Relief Fund can be made at any National Australia Bank. BSB: 082 001 - Account: 860 046 797
* Donate blood at the Australian Red Cross Blood Service (http://www.donateblood.com.au/) - 131 495
( There is also a 1800 number to call to donate... I just cant find it yet.)
I for one will be donating directly to one of the main funds.
Once the dust starts to settle and some real hands on help can start, I am sure 4wd Vic will co ordinate some projects through the clubs that many of us will get involved with.

True. But we can also create our own fund, which can be donated in turn to one of the bigger ones, or just used directly as the forum sees fit. I think this is a better way, we have enough people close to it to know exactly what's going on how to spend the $. However I am not rushing to anything. In the coming weeks there will be working bees and what not happening for sure.

Let's be Australian, and help our mates when they need a hand.
I'm sure we all will, all in our own way and in accordance with our means...
It's been reassuring to see the immediate help being offered by fellow Vics on that ABC site Victoria: Offer help (http://blogs.abc.net.au/victoria/2009/02/offer-help---or.html)
That site also has details of where any person can direct their donation or offer of assistance
It also seems that the 4wd assoc down there will offer co-ordination of some of the cleanup and repair work in the next few weeks/months (see lrocv site) - a possible alternative option to a planned fishing trip....

Glad to help out, have donated to my local cfa for saving my belongings last week, will donate whatever clothing we can to the salvo's and are willing to donate what spare time i have to help out aswell.
Will head up to kniglake when things have settled down a bit.
So does anyone have a plan of attack?

Unfortunately all the roads and tracks will be closed untill the P/V & DSE crews have gone thru and dropped all the dangerous trees.
The new Chief Ranger for the Central Highlands Region which takes in Kinglake, Marysville, Yarra Ranges, Toolangi, etc was my old boss at P/V Mansfield before his promotion.
If you would like to do something as an AULRO group, I will have a chat to arrange something if you like...???
Let me know if you want to do something

Apologies if you thought I was shouting, no, merely trying to get noticed. I had internet & phone issues yesterday, making today a tad busy. Throw in two meetings this morning, I've only just finished.
The general feeling seems to be that there are other funds we can contribute to, thats fine by me, I can see the sense in that.
May I take this opportunity to urge everyone to dig according to their means. Some of our fellow Australians, our mates, have lost all. Much of what has been lost cannot be replaced, but let's try to make the loss as easy to bear as we can, in ant way that we can. Thankyou all.
