I wouldn't know. It's been over six years now and we still can't recall anything about what happened.

I do remember there was no dust around as it was the end of November and had been raining.

I'll remember that for when I see you at the 4WD show. I'm hoping it's still going ahead:( If anything it would be a great fundraiser for the fire victims.

From last year we had 2 big ones.

This one was a failed hill. Drove up rear locked and got off line. Brakes failed and it rolled backwards before barrell rolling twice to the bottom landing on its wheels. Drove out after some work. Driver uninjured. Lake Lyall.

This one was in the wet, driver crested an erosion hump high, and then as he came over the front slid into the rut down low. As the front slid in, the rut was deep enough to grab hold of the front and the rear came around putting it into a barrell roll. This one had lots and lots of rolls until it crashed into the back of a Defender while on its side. The Defender stopped it from continuing down the hill. I accidentally blew the diff in the Vitara getting it out, but it drove out after some work. Minor injuries to driver and passenger. Lake Lyall.

Jesus. It appears that the RRC/D1 roof section has very little strength at all. The Pajero and Vitara did a lot better.I've been told that without the windscreen bonded in place, the roof section can be moved about by hand:eek:.

Personally I'm glad I have a car on the way from a manufacturer that has been conducting extensive rollover testing since 1959.

The Pajeros are really strong in the roof. My boarding house master rolled one also and it was solid. This ones dented in over the A-pillar because it went over a massive rock. The 4 doors were locked in by the rain sill level dropping, but we could force some of them. The rear door was unaffected.

The Vitara I really wouldn't depend on. It did well, but we had to winch the windcreen off the steering wheel. The B-pillar did well though although it is a light car. Both doors worked normally.

From what I've seen, the A-pillars in most cars seem to be a weak point and they get levelled between the nose and the B-pillar. If you want scary.... then thats the construction of the Series landy utes. They are one vehicle I would not ever like to roll over without a cage.

Basically anything prior to the 2002 RR in the true 4WD market won't like a roll-over. The D3, RR, RRS, FL2, LC200, new Hilux, Triton and Navara etc are all much better designed for this. Hence the car like construction of the A/B/C/D pillars and the move away from upright sticks.

I wouldn't want to roll a 100 series cruiser any more or less than a Defender or a Patrol. I've seen too many come back in to town having gone on their roof, none of them are in good condition. The troopy and new 70 series are no better or worse than their predecessors.

:lol2: very true! I've been considering the need to visit the area anymore.

I went 3 times in that period. The first time involved a broken Maxidrive axle and locking dog, a CV and a tailshaft. The second was the Vitara, the 3rd was the PAjero. Other than that I think I've done a diff and axle and on the side of Mt Walker we folded up the suspension on a Defender - that was a late night getting it driveable.
