g'day, just purchased a 2000 d2 with 4.0, auto, sls, ace... and love it. But it seems it is a case study of faults. I've checked thru past posts and solved some gremlins but still need advice with following issues;

1.central locking; key remote will not unlock both pasenger doors. mechanism inside doors makes the right noise but lock bottons don't lift. they unlock when pulling inner door handle and auto unlock when switching off motor?

2.cruise control; The vaccum hose was missing that feeds the under bonnet unit. I connected a hose to a blanked off outlet on the manifold (under the vaccum hose feeding brake booster). When i engage cruise it go's 120 kmh or nothing. Have i got the right feed or is it another problem?

3. power windows; the rear windows only go down half way and the isolator switch on the front controls doesn't work (i have kids who like to throw things out the windows).

4. I have a "twittering" noise from right front. It's only there on power down and low speed. Steering movement and braking doesn't change it. ACE?

Anyways I've ordered a cd manual to help me locate things and await your valued prognosis.

Can help with #3 - rear windows will only ever go down half way because of the wheel arch. If you look at the door you will notice that the is no space inside to go any lower. Also because the Disco has really low window sills.

the Isolator switch sends a signal to the BCU (windows are controlled by that ECU) - If you are near some one with a nanocom (or any diog kit) they will be able to see if the switch is sending a signal or not - might be switch or wiring to the BCU.

Mate, I feel your frustration, I've had a few of these, and a few other "Gremlins" in my D2, though, touch wood, I hope they are all sorted now.

What little assistance/experience I can offer I will.

1.central locking; key remote will not unlock both pasenger doors. mechanism inside doors makes the right noise but lock bottons don't lift. they unlock when pulling inner door handle and auto unlock when switching off motor?
Mine was doing this (both pass side). I would guess the door lock motors are stuffed, or on the way out. My pass side front & rear, wouldn't unlock but could be opened by inside handle, and lock with fob, not unlock. Had several looks at it, no obvious connections or problems, and other LR people eyeball it, I believe only solution is keeping unlocking from inside, or replace door lock mechanism/motor in each door.

No idea on this one sorry. Obviously a setting somewhere is whacked?
3. power windows; the rear windows only go down half way and the isolator switch on the front controls doesn't work (i have kids who like to throw things out the windows).
They only go half way down in the back.
Switch fix or wiring for the isolator shouldnt be a big fix, (check a wreckers and auto sparky)
4. I have a "twittering" noise from right front. It's only there on power down and low speed. Steering movement and braking doesn't change it. ACE?
Careful, could be your front drive shaft about to go. This can be real ugly and create dangerous and/or expensive situations.
Replace it with a greasable one, and redirect the aircon drain that drips onto the shaft, if thats the problem (a truck repair / machinist shop is the go)
Anyways I've ordered a cd manual to help me locate things and await your valued prognosis.
RAVE CD's are great, so are D2's when they are Gremlin free.

Good Luck ;)

There's a tutorial on how to change door locks in Projects and Tutorials.

For cruise control - is the speedo working properly? Or it may be related to your twittering sound from the fornt wheel. Maybe a stone or fault in your ABS sensor. But as already said, Check That Driveshaft!

The cruise control gets vacuum from a separate pump, not from the engine.
The way you have it connected now, it will just pull the actuator onto full throttle (as you've discovered).

where is the separate pump? The under bonnet unit I'm talking about has the wires going into a "motor" and vaccum lines going to the bellows. Is the "motor" the pump? Maybe the open inlet pipe is just to draw air in? I'll get a photo of unit if i can stop the missus driving it for a minute.

This may well be your front drive shaft unis, the Double Carden joint in particular, have it checked first before looking at anything else, if it goes it can be very expensive, as Fenian Eel has pointed out.

I'll through this in incase you didn't realise, but I'm sure it sounds more like a servo issue.

The passenger doors will, by default, only unlock on the second press of the key fob button. This can be change so they all open with the drivers door if required.

It does sound like you need to get the BCU activity checked. Dealer or someone with Rovacom or Nanocom should be able to monitor the operation of the locks and the window security lock switch.

got under the vehicle and sure enough the uni's are shot. Next drive is to get fixed. Thanx all, valued advice.:D:D:D

I know that the uni can give a problem but pulled mine out the other day and my brother who is very experienced at bench testing unis pronounced it fine and back in it went. In mine the AC drains dont seem to drain onto the uni - last of the rectangle light D2s. The only problem I had it seems was a torn shaft gator. I have the odd chirp from the front hence why I took the shaft out, but it seems its from something else...so dont go throwing away the uni and going to the expense if it has no play and looks fine, just make sure the drain tubes are draining away or stick extension pipes on them

I just re-read your post mate and as for the chirp, I have read that ACE pipes can give off noise - have a search of Discoweb.org.

Wozapinin,

The vacuum pump for the cruise control is the black plastic "motor" immediately under the bellows that operates the cruise control cable mechanism (the top one of the two cables attached to the throttle). It is held to a largish mounting plate by three rubber shock mountings. The blanked off outlet you refer to should stay blanked off. Hope this helps.

picked up a reconditioned front drive shaft this morning. Removed my shaft, engaged CDL and drove vehicle to pick it up. The "twittering" noise has gone.:D Two cups in the middle uni, opposite sides to each other, were flogged out and there was NO vibration.
fixed the cruise control by pulling the brake light switch out to its full length.:D:D
Looks like I'll need to replace both door lock mechanisms on passenger side.
Thanx for all advise and see you out there.

Replaced passenger door lock today. $179, parts only. Actuator cactus. That was the cheapest part of the exercise.

The doors, you will find they can be "Lazy" unlocking,a 3rd press will un doo:cool::cool::cool::cool:
Chirping, you are on to it well done:cool::cool::cool::cool:
ACE makes funny noises and clunks at low speeds on smooth roads, ignore its doing its "self test stuff"
Rear windows:D:D:D:D:D:D,dont wory you aint the first to ask:D:D:D:D:D:D
Window Child lock,re-check,I think you will find it works opposite to what you expect.
ACE,wait till you hit a freeway 360deg on-ramp,you will love it:cool::cool::cool::cool:
Find a big SAFE hill and play with the HDC,MOST of us wont have a bar of it,its too fast for real off-roading.Great in other situations.Use it to "exercise" your ABS/TC systems, gives the shuttle valves a good work out.
ENJOY
