Hi all,
Just enquiring if anyone has had cruise control fitted to their Puma's yet (not the cat, The vehicle variant;)).
I have had many queries for them at work, but no-one admits to selling them or even thinking of doing it!?
With the TD5 "Autron" from memory did a few fits, but they havent done anything as of yet for The Puma.
If someone has could they let me know & also who, where & if not to rude, a rounded off price of how much!?

Cheers all & Thanks

Yes, it would be really nice to have!

autotrans do it for the puma.......someone had it fitted on there puma on here from autotrans

we actually got a quote from them before our north trip but at $700 couldn't afford to have it done......we wich we had though!

I actually had an argument over it with landrover....as I asked if there was a kit available as it is in the duratorq, and they told it was not possible to fit cruise control to the landrover....I told them it was and I knew someone that had done it already then bagged them out for not knowing there car well enough.

apparently the manager of landrover left a message on my phone asking me to call him....never did as I was furious at there response and the fact they argued with me that it wasn't possible amongst other things that they got wrong about the car as well

OK Pete, went hunting and found the one and only reference I've seen to a Puma cruise control: Tempomat für Land Rover Defender Td4 MY07 - Nakatanenga 4x4-Equipment für Land Rover & Outdoor - Artikeldetailansicht (http://nakatanenga-tours.de/shop/article_TEMP4DE/Tempomat-für-Land-Rover-Defender-Td4-MY07.html'shop_param=cid%3D24%26aid%3DTEMP4DE%26)

Problem is "Ich spreche sehr wenig deutsch" so if someone can translate it:)

The other issue is the price at €469 or currently AU$900:eek:

And I also found this one in the UK: http://www.howard-may.co.uk/

But if you do find a suitable cruise control please post up the info, I think the orders will flood in.

Lou, do you mean Autron?

Thank-you all for your input, greatly appreciated.

Strange tho', I rang Autron last week to enquire & was told "no not for the new Defender as of yet..."

Strangely there are people out there driving with it.:eek:

Thanks;) again

Sniegy,

I dont know why they told you that they dont exist cause I've had one in my Puma since May 08 when I got the car.

Just find out where the closest Autron dealer is and ask them...

Mine took the best part of a day to fit, but apparently it was one of the first ones, and they had a few probs with programing it.

From memory it was around $700ish, and I got it fitted at a car stereo shop in Canington (Perth).

I'll try and find a photo of it and post it when I get a chance

Ok, Found this photo of the dash setup... the first time I contacted Autron they told me that it was a stalk control and thats what I was expecting... then when I got the car back I found that they had put it on the centre console.

I havent thought of anything else to put in that spot... yet, so its all good.

http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/4995/dsc0013ir6.th.jpg (http://img516.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc0013ir6.jpg)

I was looking through some old emails and found the quote for $850, but the shop was having a special for $712 for that week only... which was lucky because I only had one week from picking up the car in perth to get back up to the Kimberly. Somtimes life is good :)

The Lowdown.....
at first the cruise control was very jerky and couldn't maintain speeds very well, but after a few hundred km's it sorted itself out.

The control is mounted on the dash with double sided tape... The heat and humidity up here in the Kimberly has made it a bit "less sticky" and it fell off. I need to fix that soon.

It remebers your last speed. ie youre sitting on 100 on the Hwy, and stop to get fuel and a drink, have a rest ect, and turn off the car. after you get back on the hwy, just hit resume and it goes straight back to 100. (noice)

Overall a good unit, if a little pricey, but worth it if your covering the miles.

Craig, thanks for posting that up.

Do you know if the unit is actually CANbus or does it just wire in to specific points?

Also the control pad that is stuck to the dash, I assume it's not wireless and that as well as the tape holding it on there is a cable in the back? That certainly looks a good activation pad rather than another stalk on the steering column.

I rang Autron today and they didn't have the technical people to talk to. They could confirm that the unit must be installed by an authorised Autron distributor as they have the necessary programming unit to set the system up on installation. From what you've said and what they implied it sounds like the unit has to be tailored to the vehicle and then has a learning curve.

The downside is I won't be able to get one installed until I've done some of my holiday trip in July or August.

Craig

Derek

I'm not sure how it is wired in although it is "Fly by wire" not "Vacuum", however I can tell you that the installer thought it was only going to take a couple of hours to do and it ended up taking a day... the main reason that they told me was programing it. I dont know if Autron will have better information available for the install now, and thus it will take less time.

The control pad is held on with double sided tape, and they drilled a hole in the dash for the wires to come in from behind. They didnt ask me where I wanted it installed, they just drilled the hole. That said its in a good position and easy to reach.

The other problem with the control pad is that it is flat and the dash surface has a slight curve to it. Thus the tape eventually came away and it fell off. Not a huge prob as I just put some more d/s tape on it, but I must do somthing a bit more perminant next time.

Good luck

Craig

Hi Guys,

I've been hunting High and Low to work out what Cruise Systems are available for TDCi Defenders.

I've come across this Waeco MagicSpeed 800 (http://www.waeco.com/en/4374_1340.php) which is compatible with Freelander2 and the Ford Transit with the MS-FO2 (http://www.waeco.com/en/4374_1340.php?artOrigID=35503&sprID=2) wiring kit.

They have keypads, IR and Stalk mounted operation available.

I have asked if it is compatible with the Defender, and am just awaiting a response.

I'll let you know when/if I hear anything back.

Dave.

Hi Draymond. I am unaware of this unit you are talking about.
I have the Autron fitted and have given it a good test on my trip from Melbourne to Robe yesterday. Can't fault it, holds the speed very well, and I am happy with the factory look of the fit. Easy to operate also and would recommend them to all Puma Defender owners.

Hi SVX37,

Do you have any pix of the install?

The think I don't like about the Autron System is the stalk, or keypad.

The available stalk for the MagicSpeed system is much nicer to look at.... keypad is about the same.

Thanks for your comment.

:)

Dave.

When I enquired about the Autron it was only going to be a Stalk installation and I didn't like this. Keypad looks a lot better IMO.

Hi guys,

I go the following reply from Steve @ Conrad-Anderson in the UK:

We do have a cruise kit for the new Ford engined Defender however it is not a straightforward plug in to the pedal. When fitting, you will need to splice/solder in the pedal adaptor to the original loom.

Please see attached the schematic wiring and page 27 of the install manual gives you more specific wiring for the pedal.

AP800 Electronic Kit £238.30
CM7 Dash Pad command module £31.91
GCT240 Universal T harness £38.30
Carriage to SA £50

If you have any queries or want to book/ order, please ring 0800 279 6939/ 0044 (0)121 247 0619 or email.

With the Td5, the faster you went, the more 'clatter' you got from the engine bay, keeping you awake. Idling along in 1st Low, you could fall asleep though.

I find the reverse holds for the Puma. It clatters while idling along, but the engine noise pitch smoothes out to a 'creamy' drone which tends to put me to sleep :D

I am interested in a cruise control set-up for our Puma, preferable a DIY as I don't like any of the switch variants which I have seen to date.

The only DIY unit I have come across is from Landrovertuning at Emerald beach and quite expensive IMHO

Landrover Tuning :: Cruise Control Kit for Defender TD4 from MY07 (http://www.landrovertuning.com.au/shop/defender/interior/cruise-control-kit-for-defender-td4-from-my07.html)

Has anyone used this product. Also I see several installations of the Autron Auscruise product. Does anyone have any update info or testimonials of this product or any other Puma cruise control units.

Very professional job. Th best mod done thus far. Works perfectly. $ 895 fully installed . If yo need further details , pm me.

Looked at all sorts of options for my puma and decided on the AP 900 from command. Robert from Tagg audio (0412 584 320) charged $800 and came to my office and had it fitted in 1 hour. A very nice job too.

It works perfectly, holds speed well and is simple to use. I decided on this unit as "IF" you need alter its performance (gain etc) you can do it yourself. Robert has done many of these so he sets it up perfect out of the box,

I also like the idea that "IF" it dies you can take it out of circuit in 2 or 3 mins and it's back to factory right foot only cruising.

It's can bus device and I decided on a dash switch, just on top of the dash under the right hand round face vent. I will post a picture if anyone interested.

If your looking for a great cruise control this one comes highly recommended

My paperwork shows AP 900, but it is CANbus, 100% sure. My documentation is Australian although the unit is imported.

The website shows the same units, however maybe they use different part numbers there. The people I got mine from was the command auto group (Sydney importer number is 02 88532900) . My install is listed under “Land Rover Ute Diesel 2008”. The local guy (or one of them) is Robert Tagg.

As I said, cant speak highly enough of the unit. In my old defender TD5 I had an Autron and it gave me trouble. Shut the engine down a few times (took it back), died once (took it back) so I lost faith in them. Im local too as Autron is 1 hour from my home. Hate to think what would happen if I lived in Qld... Also, the Autron did not apply full throttle as often when going up hills with the cruise on the speed started to drop and a stomp on the right peddle was often all that was needed to save me swapping gears. I have not seen this problem on the AP900.

There is not a huge selection out there, Autron or this, you just gotta get cruise ( those LONNGGGGGG drives on freeways back home after a hard weekend away .... Bliss)

cheers folks.

I just had it installed and it works perfect. I agree that it is expensive however olive in the states and driving a 110 pn the freeway 40k a year w/out is just too much. I would highly recommend using landrovertuning for anything, Dirk is really helpful. It's not really a "DIY" product unless your really really good at car/stereo related installs.
