Can anyone tell me what the cable is behind the drivers side tail light on a 300tdi. It has a plug and then 2 seperate wires. Is this code reader connection? It has rists on the plug top.;)

RISTS took over from Lucas in the Prince of Darkness stakes.

The item referred to is the connector for the towing harness. LR make an extension cable so when you buy the towing kit, it all plugs together. (Instead of cutting and splicing the main loom). The extra wires are for a live 12v feed for the trailer or caravan.

And how many towbar fitters don't know about this and use Scotch locks, unwaterproofed and badly crimped???:mad::mad:

Yeah, we've got one of those. The bundle of Scotchloks is in the rear panel right next to the factory plug! At least they're reasonably protected from water in there...

Ian
PS: Wish I'd seen the 'edited' adjective describing the 'bar fitters...

I had Googled RIST thinking the poster might have meant something about the shape of the plug. I should have Googled RISTS. :(

I've never heard of them before.

My apologies Ron. I thought you had sneakily 'edited' that press release as a bit of a pi$$-take. I'd never heard of RISTS before either.

Thanks for the info. That makes sense as it has a tow kit however the trailer light indicator on the dash has never worked and I thought they may have not used the Rover loom. Thanks for the help! Rovering:)

The light should work whether the genuine socket is used or not. Is there a globe in there?
