So did I:p

Mines an Intuos 3 8x6. Really good for the desk. I think you'll find the 6x4 will go well with the notebook. It should also be more portable.

Once you get the hang of it, it is fantastic to use.

its for my desktop.....and the tablet is bigger in size than our toughbook...so I wouldn't exactly call it portable

the whole thing is bigger than an A4 sheet of paper

Edit: I have just measured it as Ian told me 6x4 its actually 8x6.5......so sounds very much like what you have derek!

PTZ-630, sounds like its the same one. Definitely not portable. I only have the pen, but seeing how I don't do any graphic art stuff that suits my needs. I do change the tip over if I am doing any hand writing capture though.

Oh and tell Ian he should have bought you a Wacom Cintiq 21UX or at the very least a Cintiq 12WX ;)

I'll let you look up the price of them... make sure you are comfortably seated!

So what other programs can you use it with derek?

dmdigital

The pen will work as a mouse does. So if you wanted to you could use it as the mouse for Word etc. It will basically work with any graphics app though and also with the tablet software in Windows Vista.

Yep, but some of the apps, like photoshop allow the pressure of the pen to be registered as well.

More pressure - thicker line, I think most popular drawing apps have this.

But as you said you can still use it as a mouse replacement.

Hi Dullbird,

Happy Birthday for starters!

You can use your wacom for just about anything as it works exaclty like a mouse. Photoshop or any other such program is what you would mainly use it for. You can use it in any drawing program, but as I said it should work with anything as it operates just like a mouse. I have found that a mouse is generally a little easier to use in some cases eg: when you need to click a specific pixel or a particular point in illustrator. The wacom comes to the fore when you need to do something that requires a drawing or airbrush like action.

Have fun, and if you need any help let me know I might be able to offer some assistance but they are pretty straight forward.

Cheers

Josh

ok So I had a play with the tablet.......IT IS VERY HARD TO DRAW WITH...

I sort of expected for it to be like this....as a drawer you are constantly shifting bwteen the paper and the object sometimes moving the pencil while observing it and sometimes not! so drawing on a tablet is a bit more tricky

I had a go at drawing something.......So as you are all aware it is my first time so go easy:lol2:
I can assure you if I was drawing it with a pencil and paper it would be a lot more acurate :)

Go Easy she says:eek:

I wish I could draw that badly!!!!!!!

I've found that one of the things is to swap to a different pen nib as they have different feel to them and some are more pencil like etc.

dullbird

yeah I couldn't find my instructions to change the nib I actually wanted to do that.....I have found them now but not much use now I finished it :lol2:

any how derek you might be able to help me these pens are pressure sentive as well right...but I found when starting to put a bit of pressure on a smal peice that I wanted to sketch in it would load up the brush size menu all the time its really iritating....any ideas how to stop that happening?

dmdigital

It shouldn't load up the brush menu. I'm not sure why the menu would come up. Two things to check:
1. You're not clicking the button on the pen
2. The settings in the control panel for the tablet

To change the pen unscrew the collar and use a pair of tweezers to pull the nib out and then slide the new one in and screw the collar back on.

Yeah will have to check the settings......its not me touching the button because it only does it when I apply a bit of pressure to the pen and i'm only moving the pen very slightly rather than in big strokes...

Would you be better off drawing on paper, scanning with a flatbed scanner and then use the tablet to edit/colour/cleanup later?

I think you missed the point...I have never used one before so I had a go at drawing on it:)

the tablet is not going to be used for drawing, mainly for editing photo work in photoshop etc

If I draw on paper I ususally don't have to correct and what does need changing gets done with a putty rubber.:p
I also paint in water colour normally

Although I got an easel also so i might just crack out the canvas and the acrylic:o:D

Fair enough. It's just I've seen a few digital art articles where the image starts off as a paper sketch which is scanned and then manipulated in photoshop or illustrator.

Sounds like a plan......only problem I have is my canon scanner stopped working with my vista so no more scanner for me, and I dont use it enough to warrant buying another but thanks for the tips:)

Have you tried going to the canon website and seeing if there is another driver for it? Usually they will release a new driver when a new OS comes out. If the scanner isn't a discontinued model they should have a driver update for it.

done all that....it used to work with it just doesn't any longer!! it doesn't work on the other computer either so I'm guessing its a scanner fault not OS
