Intercoolers/trans cooler upgrade q's

Hi all,
Got a td5 disco where I've upgraded the auto trans cooler so its larger and now up the front. So... no room there now for a bigger intercooler. When i get around to removing the old auto trans cooler, is there an intercooler that could replace the old one and make use of the space where the old trans cooler belonged? Ie sit in the same place in the radiator pack but be higher in its depth.

Hi Dave, the upgraded intercoolers take up the same real estate as the older ones. They just run a core which is thicker rather than being longer and wider. They still fit back into the original intercooler location. I also run an upgraded intercooler and a additional ATf cooler at the front.

Hi Slunnie, did you connect the old AT cooler in series to the new one fitted if front of the radiator?

I just fitted a bigger intercooler to my Td5 110 with aircon. Mine is a custom job and unlike all of the other coolers available for td5s. It is not much deeper than than standard nor any wider but is over twice as thick. 65mm vs 30ish. It now has much more mid range power and is free-er revving. Now for a ecu tweak.

The thing about mine is it should fit a td5 auto as it does not go full depth, so will not interfere with the auto cooler.my core is 500x230x65 with custom tanks to fit standard brackets and mounts. No mods to the car at all. I went for this size as it was cheap ($160) and had about the right internal volume (when compared to alternative coolers) so as not to get too much pressure drop. I dropped original and new coolers off to a mate who matched the brackets etc and made new tanks for it. All up it has cost me $310.

Bargin and it bloody well works.. goes much better.
