Gday
Sorry a non-Landrover related thread but just out of interest what sports do we play on here?
Post up a story or a bit of info on how long you played for, howmany beers you had on the sideline or how good you were etc? :D
Be interesting to see which is the top sport
Me, I play rugby union. I played soccer for a year and a half than gave it up. Started playing U14's Rugby when I was 10 and been going strong since. Had to sit last year out with a bulged disc in my back. But Im back this year. Played for little old Tassie for 4 years :)
I also drive regatta support boats at Rowing Regattas
(And tell me if I've missed a sport)
Thanks

Rugby Union - only if Australia's playing and we're winning :wasntme:
Rugby League - never, really (it looks like a strange game to me)
AFL - started too when the Swans won, stopped when they weren't.
What bandwagon!?
Soccer - If I have to watch another pathetic European fall over and jump up and down screaming at the ref I'll break my tv - great game, just so many bananas--
Motor sport - I drive a Suzuki Swift (so no - despite what the ads tell you, lol)
I do love tennis though

I don't play any at the moment, used to play soccer, was a pretty good goalie too. They used to call me the octapus, "couldn't make all those saves with only 2 arms"
Played a lot of basket ball when I was younger, I was really good at that, at 6'1" though too short for a forward otherwise I would've tried to go pro.
Played 1 game of C grade cricket for the Traralgon Cats, Bowling figures were 1 for 3 off 3 balls, and made 9 runs. (we were the bottom side, they were the top)
Now days I love to watch cricket, and league. GO THE CHOOKS!!!!!!!!
I'll play basketball again soon I reckon.

I thought I was being nice. :p
In fact I was really being nice to others who might also want to have a bit of a go at you. :p
I am sure I have left enough out that someone else could have leveled the same criticism at me by pointing out how many I had missed. :p
Just in case you were wondering, I didn't forget Synchronised Swimming. I refuse to include as a sport something where the most important prerequisites seem to be a silly fixed smile and the ability to wear a peg on your nose.

I had my fair share of injuries too, worst one was my back. But other than that, I had 7 stitches across the top of my knee from some fella stepping on me with studs. The old man told me you could put a golf ball in the hole, it was that big. It didnt really notice was to busy staring at the inside of my thigh :blink: (insert green sick looking smiley here)
Other than that, 3 shoulder injuries to date, numerours muscle strains and some decent damage to the ligaments in one ankle

I never really got into ball sports, most of the stuff I used to do as a kiddy was either social sports or fitness work like running and gym.
The big thing for me though has always been motorsports. I don't remember not being into motor racing. Always from the start it was ATCC and Bathurst with the various specs of domestic tintops and minor open wheelers like the forumla Fords and Formula V's. Later into the GP's also before getting involved in flag marshalling with the ARDC at Amaroo. You'll never believe how many parts can come out of a race car which is circulating, let along a smashed one! I then later got into Karting where I competed everywhere between and including club level racing through to Australian championship racing. A few highlights were catching and passing Sandro Guitoli by 1/2 lap for a wet win, heat wins at Aus champs level and sitting on the front row with Gary Holt for the Australiasian Gold cup. Lows were lots of engine failures including one which cost me a year series win in the last races final - the 2nd in series trophy is a thorn. Still love the domestic tin tops and V8 supercars, open wheelers like Formula Ford and F1 and even watching the MotoGPs etc with Stoner and characters like Rossi. On a more domestic level I've been involved in the Energy Breakthrough in victoria which is a 24hr school kid energy efficient race where our team completely smashed the track record by 50 or 60 laps on the way to Victory in our 3rd attempt.

For a couple of years there, my sister and I used to live at the skating rink all weekend
We did the general skating Friday and Saturday nights but then there was the hockey training and the speed training that our friends did, not to mention the figure skating....most of the girls either did figure skating or speed skating and the blokes did speed and hockey. I just played hockey.
I reckon I might fall over if I got on skates now :D
Was Arthur Martin still managing the place when you went there....baldy headed bloke with a big dark haired missus ;)

i voted for union but follow f1 and any rally with as much enthusiasm.
used to play rugby back home to quite a high level and got selected for the airforce team which had a few international players. then the game got all serious and turned pro no more free jugs after the game but we did get payed for playing. a little while later i got seriously injured which meant i couldn't play anymore, but realised that it was almost as fun sitting in the clubhouse watching - with jug in hand of course.

And the Hurricane's in Super 14..
Used to play up until i was 19 ( got lazy around then ), Petone was my old team ( famous rugby club in Wellington NZ ), and used to play age grade with Tana Umaga back then.
Have never been able to get into Soccer ( despite playing it as a kid ), and ALF just confuses me..

played pretty much everything that was available as a kid. Soccer, tennis, table tennis, rugby, leaague, badminton and was finally introduced to sailing, That was 35 years ago, still going strong. Not into yachts, too slow although have done the odd race. Open skiff sailing is my go.So far have won 5 national titles in various classes,4 State titles (3 in NSW, 1 in QLD) and various club championships and regattas. Great sport where you meet lifelong friends and they do enjoy a drink after a race. Was introduced to the warming properties of rum & hot bonox after a particularly cold race during winter when I was about 15. Shh don't tell anybody, I wouldn't want someone to get into trouble for serving underage drinkers.

I know what you mean ......,both my boys did golf.Teeing off at dawn at places all over the countryside,i also couldnt wait till they could drive themselves, and find a caddy.I have never played a game ever, their granddad got them into it.One is now 21,the other is 23,and its still golf & more golf.Suppose it keeps them off the streets........One started when he was 6,the other when he was 9.
As for me,Its rugby league,go the queenslanders,& motorsports,V8;s,bathurst,etc. Dont mind fishing & shooting either,if you can call them sports.

I played league at school, and to a lesser extent touch, union, cricket, basketball and one or two games of soccer ( we called it wogball in pre PC days), but never had much interest playing them, even less watching others play it.
Now I race a sidecar, and I pistol shoot. I have always wanted to shoot rifles competitively but the sidecar racing takes up lots of my time. This year I am hoping to finish in the top three in the Australian championship, one better than 2007. I sat out 2008 to save up for a new machine.

Hi there All,
Have to put Union (Go Super 14) on top with motor sport a close second. I think of myself as a bit of a refined ref-head, I will stay up and watch the F1 circus at 1am on a Monday moring (Yes, I am from WA). I used to be a Fire Marshall at our local race track (Kayalami - RSA). Did a few F1 races and also the week long Test Sessions. Looking forward to the new season to start.
Cheers,
