I currently have a set up classic 2 door with P76, maxi drive rear, standard diff ratios 2" springs and 2" body lift, cut guards and 33" maxxis Bighorns.

I've always wanted to put bigger tyres on the beast but am concerned that everything will change?? right now the noise is managable from the tyres and the drivability is good as i've also changed the castor correction bushes. Off road its a weapon and is great fun. i guess the question is do i need bigger tyres??

Can someone give me some actual info about what differences ill notice as i'm considering selling the virtually new bighorns for a set of JT2's or extreme's.

Any info would be greatly appreciated...

You might find 33's are the largest you can get engineered easily.

In saying that 35's are going on my RRC. But with bigger brakes etc.

Things you will have to consider are
Is it leagle, Gearing will be taller, It will track more on bad cambered roads, Unsprung weight, Fuel use, more stress on drive line and steering when driven hard. Likely you will gain less than 1" of clearance:confused:, Do you realy need them. The choice of tyres you mentioned won't be so good on black top. Ever tried to walk on jellyfish;)

He He no i've never tried to walk on jellyfish but i get the picture. I was leaning towards not putting them on. I've got the devil on one shoulder saying do it you only live once and the angel saying dont do it..... damn the choices......

I don't think they would make much of a difference, you're only looking at roughly 25mm extra diff clerance and that's bugger-all in the scheme of things. If you went from a 33 to a 37 inch tyre for example that would be worth the effort but not many Rangies I know run 37's (leave them to the big-egoed Nissan owners ).
I run 33's because it's a cheap option to extra ground clerance and the tracks have been dug out so much up here that 33's are starting to get small on some trails. i may be forced to 35's due to the tracks being so rutted by the dickhead factor with there massive tyres, big lifts and big egos.

PS- I don't have an issue with 4WD's with big tyres overall, it's the bloody dropkicks behind the wheel :mad::mad:. I get ****ed off with the try-hards who go out and flog the crap out of the tracks to the extent that the average bloke's 4WD can't get through places that were once accessable :mad::mad: rant over!!

Sorry :)
I'll make it upto you, and I have had four years off the trails so I have given the tracks a break. :D

I say go the 35's.

What it means is that you will have extra traction and clearance so that you don't get stuck in ruts and holes that idiot drivers with 33's and less sit in and spin their tyres to eternity while they chop the crap out of the tracks and generally destroy the place. Although 25mm doesn't sound like a great deal - in practice it is a lot as it makes the difference to clear the holes and humps that others have made and had to be winched and snatched off.

I wouldn't say idiots with 33's more idiots and try-hards in general who don't have a ****ing clue how to drive in the first place, but you make a valid point overall.

I stick to 33's mainly because I can't be stuffed doing too much to my Rangie, leaves me plenty of beer money :D:D:D
