I found an excellent condition hard back for $80 through Abebooks (better than ebay if you're looking for somethning specific)
Am about halfway through the book, pretty interesting stuff.
Not as entertaining as Jambo by Olle Stransberg (about a trip through Africa in a series 2 with a Swedish fibreglass body)
Would be interested in seeing footage from the Darien trip though
Cheers

I just found this book in New Zealand. Good read. I am keen to see the film that was made as well. Its called The Darien Conquest, but I understand it is for viewing by the British army only, for training purposes. It was shown to BL employees as well.
There must be some copies about though surely

Weirdy, since looking for a copy of this book everytime i walk into an old bookstore ( and i do that a lot, love old books ) over the last 20 years since I read it borrowed from a library back in NZ, I found a copy on Amazon in the States last week, so it's on it's way now, and even weirder, my sister in England knows i've been after a copy and just won one on Ebay for me..now i have two on the way!, both first edition copies....can't wait for them now.

Hi
My father has in his book collection copies of both this book and Tim Slessors First Overland, both of which I am looking after for him!
Have also just ordered the DVD of the original footage from the First Overland expedition. Apparantly someone in the BBC recently found all the footage taken on the original trip (which was though to be lost) and it has been edited and remastered.
If you type '2010 first overland' into your search engine you should find a site by a group of students that are attempting to retrace the original route (in Series 1's), and you will find the link.

As far as I know, it was never reprinted, so very difficult book to find. Found a copy on AbeBooks but at AU$350 [bawl]

Sorry - I was talking about First Overland, are you talking about the Darien Gap book? I haven’t seen that one.

Have you tried a library? If your local doesn't have a copy, libraries have arrangements to borrow from each other.
Ipswich has is best library of which I've been a member, they have a search function on their website.
