Cheap lights

Ok so i have some cheap spot/drive lights and they are not water proof, after driving though some bonnet high water yesterday they sucked in a lot of water i drained most of it out this morning but there are still some drop i cant get to. And after being on for a while the water evaporates and creates fog inside the loon. The lenses are not removable what should i do?

Oh and to make things more exciting when i was taking the lights off it started raining and in the rush i have lost the brace which holds the globe in :mad:

Take the glass lens off and leave the lights out in the sun for a while.

Leaving water/moisture in the light will stuff the reflector pretty quick.

Thats what iv been trying to do but im not having any luck! any tips on how to get it off with out cracking or smashing the glass? iv been trying to leaver it off.

Yep after rereading it I see you can't get them off.
Maybe try blowing air into the bulb hole with a compressor for a little bit to get rid of the moisture.

Mind you that might get more moisture in if it doesn't have a water trap.

I'd just leave them out in the sun with the bulb out and hope for the best. Should be fine.
Point the bulb hole up too.

Iv been thinking of getting some new spot/Driving lights for a while as i do a lot of night driving a lot of which is on high speed roads with no lighting.

Iv been looking at Cibie Oscar lights or maybe Light Force 240's...But my old man came up to me and suggested maybe i should try find some second hand "Aircraft Landing Lights" thats what he use to use does anybody know if this is legal and will they be fine with the wiring i have for my cheap 100W lights?

That was the first thing i did! and it just fogged it up then i used cold air no help :(

I used to have landing lights many years ago. They were good at the time but compared to modern lights, they're not that good. I have Hella Rallye 4000's and they are great. I think they might be a little cheaper than the Cibies but the good news is, you can upgrade to HID for a bout $250/pair:D

How much would i be expecting for landing lights? should i just use ebay?

As from what iv heard its the cheapest way to get great lighting.

I've got some 5 year old Nite Stalker 220? from Supercheap on my Disco. I'd put them on par with the IPF 900/800? I had on my work ute.

Nite Stalker were about $160 (are cheaper now) and the IPF were $350?

Try swirling a bit of metho around inside the reflector / lens bit, tip the excess out and leave them out in the sun, when we get to see it again, lens side down with the globe out for a few hours.

Iv got nite stalkers, i got them from super cheap with my 25% discount so got them for $75 :)

And they are all dried out now. But whilst doing this i noticed my left headlight has blown since last night...seems there is no way to be in front of the problems!

x2 on the metho treatment. It worked very well on my Hella 4000's after an over the bonnet crossing.

I'd rate them pretty good for a cheapy. Like I said they were just as good as the IPFs I had. Glad it wasn't my money wasted on the IPFs :)

I'm not at all putting them down! they are great for $75!!! compared to the possible $300 i was going to pay


And the metho is a brilliant idea!

Well tomorrow i will replace the tail light and headlight and fix the wires to the front right blinker and Aux lights then fingers crossed everything will be working! (well except for things i haven't noticed yet)

Then ill fit my CB radio from my rangy and ill be much happier!
