Hello again, got a new one for you. My 3.5Lv8 keeps flooding after it's been sitting for about 20mins or so. Mainly when hot, makes it a real problem to start, but if left over night will start straight up, will fire straight away if only left for a couple of mins after running. I have already pulled the rekitted carbs back off and I'm working on them now,(due to the constant embarressment) I think the float levels must be to high. There is no fuel pressure when shut down, so it's not that, but I notice it takes a while to prime when you turn the key, electric fuel pump, with return. The float levels where set to the factory 5/8" but I am starting to wonder if this allows for the angle they sit on? I'm going to use some very complicated math to work out the correct level taking into account the angle they are on, temp and postion of the sun in relation to the center of the earth, or in other words just guess!! I think 3/4'' will do it, but I will be going through them to look for any little fault, even down to casting imperfection. I hope it's not just engine temp boiling the fuel out of the bowels and down into the mainfold, or is normal for these engines, because I won't put up with it!! An thoughts on this matter would be great! Oh, and I finished that winch off to, next I put the higher ratio transfer gears in, one thing at a time!!:p

No worries!! I fixed it(I think), floats were set to high, I ended up just eyeing them level. Most likely made a diffrence of about 1/4'' in the fuel level. Seems to be working, will do more road/off road testing tomorrow, see how it go's on some angles.I think those style of carbs will keep working as long as the main jet still has a little fuel around it. Could make a diffence to the fuel ecomomy I hope.:D

The worst style of flooding is when the needles stick in the open position - it happens to me after running on lpg for too long without using petrol.
It causes fuel to pump out the breather into the charcoal cannister and has been known to cause vehicle fires.

While it doesnt sound like the cause of your problem, its something to be aware of...
