the 130 gets hot on hills with a load on.
not overheat just 100* or so hot.

Im looking into a full size rad to improve cooling (prob a county etal. full size rad)

That means I need a new intercooler location.

I could go down to supercrap and buy a ricer boy $229 front mount... but since I will have 2 surplus 300tdi intercoolers and the means to weld Al (or is that Alii or maybe Alloy). Is it a good idea to join the two standard tanks and have a larger cooler with two seperate cores?

I like the up/down orientation of the 300 tdi intercooler cores, it makes plumbing from the passenger sided turbo and inlet easier. I could fashion new top and bottom tanks with the two cores side by side to give double the OEM IC volume?

Am I dreaming?

Sounds reasonable if you can make the join in the tanks pressure tight.

Dereck Watkins from Modern motors in Dungog runs two stock coolers in parallel.I would fit a 4 core rad twin pass rad,you can get the original re-cored for around the $700 mark and that would fix the cooling problem. Pat

Interesting. How and where are they mounted ?

The rad is maybe 6 months old - 10k at most. 4 core unit. Not sure of the internal plumbing.

No A/C condenser up front so I could go a thicker radiator in the same space... then even double up the intercoolers front to back.

He removed the original grill and fitted the county one,it sticks out about 3'' more than the defender one,two ''Y'' pieces joining the coolers so the air goes through either one or the other.Have you changed the thermostat?,Tdi's need lots of air,fan OK?. Pat

thermostat is stock... 88 i thinks. Have contemplated changing or maybe modding the plate to let more flow... New fan hub was my first port of call, fan blades visually appear okay. No A/C condensor. The 130 only gets to 100* on longer hills with say 500kg in the tray and maybe 700-1000kg trailer (depending on whcih boat goes north).

100* is probably not the end of the world but it would be nice to keep it better under control.

My issue with using a county rad is that it will still need to be modded with the addition of an oil coiler in the DS tank and mod the inlet/outlet. A full custom may be the best way to go.
