A speed camera in Wardoo St, Southport,Qld, made in 43 hours $506,000, according to calculations based on average breaches before a 33 per cent hike in fines on January 1. :eek:
But wait there is more, the link is HERE (http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,27574,25059317-3102,00.html)

i could not believe the front page of the Courier Mail today,all the rubbish about revenue raising from speed cameras.What it should have read was Why are all these people speeding?
They must be short of real news.....its just a load of sensational rubbish...
I doubt any of the figures are correct anyway......

Ahh but if those people were pulled over and booked they might have slowed down, but no they kept on speeding till the bill came in the mail 6 weeks later and then it got put in the pile with all the other bills and kept on speeding, and how bad is that for the police to see all these people breaking the law and just watching them drive by, it is almost dereliction of duty.
When police officer has pulled one person over for speeding you will automatically see everyone slow down and take note of their speed, not everyone see's a speed camera and more often than not everyone speeds up again after seeing a camera. Nothing like a spike of fear with some blue and red flashing light to make people think.
I do not agree with speed cameras, they are a revenue raising cost cutting measure which do not save lives. Its just a speeding credit card just as bad as the banks.
Rant over:p

I just did a quick google on the number and location of Speed Cameras in NSW; quite alarming the Number of Fixed Speed cameras;
Speed camera locations (http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/roadsafety/speedandspeedcameras/fixeddigitalspeedcameras/fixedspeedcameralocations/)
Quote:)
Fixed speed cameras are installed at sites that meet specific criteria. The RTA Fixed Speed Camera Site Selection Criteria were developed by the RTA in consultation with the NRMA and the NSW Police Service.
These criteria are based on crash and injury accident rates and travelling speeds. This ensures that cameras are installed on 'blacklengths' (lengths of road with a high accident rate) and a demonstrated speeding problem.
How many speed cameras
There are currently 171 fixed speed cameras at 141 locations, 64 of these cameras are located in 44 school zones (school zones are considered locations).
