My D3 is fitted with the Land Rover bar on the front, not my choice it happened to be on the vehicle. All its good for is to fend off shoping trolly's or provide a point to hang driving lights.

I remembered reading somewhere that when going off road to remove the front cover to expose the recovery hitch point. I guess for those unexpected times when you may need a helping hand. Now how the hell do you get the cover off without removing the bar. Has any one experienced this or know of a easy way around the problem or a modification.

Cheers

G/day sadbenn,

The recovery point is a problem, I am thinking at this point that removing the cover and leaving it off may be the only option, but I have know idea at this stage as to how exposed that may leave the lower radiator core or air con condenser or what ever else may be behind and being protected by the cover. Could be risky that is why I thought someone out there may have had an idea or solution.

Looks like I may have to remove the bar and cover to see what is exposed and how it looks.

Cheers

I don;t think that the front recover hook cover really protects anything. It's more of a 'clean look' thing.

Before I had the ARB bar put on, I pretty well had mine off permanently. No issues at all.

Like Jamo, I leave the cover off permanently (as I do the back). The front hook (unlike the back) is a tie down down point (described differently in the owner's manual but you'll get the gist).

Having said that, I've been recovered a number of times from the front with nothing untoward happening (to date).

Yep! The manual actually calls it a towing point, not a tie down.

Even the ARB recovery hooks are officially titled towning points (and I don't know where some get this 'rated' thing from for them as there's no rating on them that I've ever seen).

I've used my front hook for snatching and not had a problem (yet!)
