g'day, my temp gauge on my d2 4.0 only just moves off lowest point, Stays in the blue. I guess it should be about half way. Any ideas what could be the problem? cheers.:)

Hint; If the thermo is jammed open you will be getting horrible fuel mileage. Yes, it is possible to get worse than normal:lol2:

The temp sender could be high resistance. Easiest way to check that its not the gauge would be to disconnect the wire running to it and short it out on the block, since its a neg return when you turn the igniton temp gauge should read max. Well at least thats how i checked my D1 V8 sender, im aussming the D2 has the same setup.

Will I be able to check if jammed open after taking unit off vehicle? Looks like a sealed unit. Am i better off getting a replacement?:)

Well if you have a multimeter you can check the resistance of the sender unit, mine was about 450ohms cold and after a few min in boiling water droped to 160 ohms.

From family induced experience, anything to do with faults on D2 V8 cooling systems is best solved by NEW PARTS.

The thermostat assembly (external, plastic, joined into several hoses) is not an expensive item, but an overheat repair can be an extremely costly event.

Check the guage is working correctly, and replace the thermostat.
