Toyota w-56 to series transfer case

Does anyone have experience making an adaptor to go from a toyota w-56 transmission to a series transfer case? I'm not sure if you have the w-56 over there - they're quite abundant in the states.

I think I may have to make the adaptor myself. Exact dimensions of the series T case would be greatly appreciated.

I plan on using a Toyota 3rz engine in my 109

Welcome to the forum - Where are you?

There may be someone here who has done this, but the fitting of any other gearbox to the Series transfer case is quite rare here, although fitting other engines is fairly common, with Holden engines being the most popular.

I don't recognise the Toyota engine or gearbox numbers, but that means nothing - I know little about Toyotas.

When you say W-56 are you referring to the steel case Supra gearbox? I would be interested in knowing how you go with this...

Im in the north west USA, Oregon to be exact. I'm not sure any one here has done this swap. The Toyota w-56 was used in their small trucks and has been replaced by the w-59. This series is different than the units used in the v-6 toyota's, which might be more common over there.

The 3rz is a pretty amazing engine. Smaller and lighter than the 2.25 but with 170 lbs of torque (and good low end torque as well) and 150 hp.

Lots of folks here are swapping ford and gm motors but in the process have to cut the fire wall and make new floor boards etc. I think with the Toyota 5 speed and the 3rz, "relatively" few modifications will need to be made.

The 22R is an old engine. The 3RZ is the current engine (EFI, DOHC).

Sounds good but is having a toyota motor in your land rover a bit wrong

Yes, it is wrong - But I've spent a great many hours and way too much money trying to do it right. By the way, that's what I like about this swap. When the day comes I put the 2.25 back under the bonnet I won't have to regret chopping up the rig to fit a v8.

To put things into perspective a rebuilt 2.25 engine and transmission over here would cost over $5,000.00 US And then what you actually get would be questionable. I purchased a low milage 3rz and five speed for $1,900.00

It actually sounds like a good conversion and is something I had thought about before but using the 22RE engine instead. Let us know if you are going to manufacture an adaptor to suit the transfer case as I may be interested....
