View Full Version : 4WD Action DVD looking for a Rangie to be in shoot, mid March (Sth QLD)

Hey all,

I've escaped the Disco section and snuck over here for a bit. What we're looking for is an 80s V8 Rangie, to take part in a shoot we're doing mid March (16-20) in Sth QLD. Expenses would be covered (within reason obviously). Both the car and owner would need to be in camera a bit, so we'd need someone who doesn't mind having a camera in their face a bit.

Car wise, I'll cut to the chase, it'll be a light hearted competition between three similar vintage vehicles (Roothy's included), so what ever Rangie it is, it'd need to be a decent bit of gear. Both of the other competitors are running twin lockers and a few goodies.

If you're keen or you know someone who you think would fit the bill, please get them to drop me an email with info about them and the car. If possible a quick video of the person saying g'day to the camera too.

Obviously as an LR owner myself I'll be backing the RR :)

Thanks again

Does it have to be a V8. Our 85 RRC was in the December issue and it has a few goodies. I.m keen if a diesel is ok. (go the Isuzu)

Would submit mine but it's rough and ready and not the most eye appealing to be quite honest. Also I don't have a front diff lock (yet).

Should be a good comparo, go the mighty Range Rover

hmm, bugger. I guess my '99 P38A doesn't qualify then... and I've only recently swapped the QLD plates for NSW ones.

I'd love to put my "P38A tractor" up against Roothy's truck, although I'd better get a snorkel first :)

Even though mine does only have a rear air locker, the traction control does a pretty good job in most situations. The 2" lift (plus adjustable height air suspension) and 33" muddies gives it an overall height advantage of approx 4" over standard P38A's. Add the disconnecting front anti-sway bars, extended shocks and Arnott Gen3 air springs and it's not a bad set-up. Custom front and rear bars improve approach and departure angles and make it far more "agricultural" than most "Toorak Tractors" getting around.

Guess I'll just have to wait until they want to give late 90's Landcruisers and Patrols a flogging.

Cheers, Paul.

This isn't going to be a very fair challenge IMO.

You'd be better off with a bog stock RR with a decent set of tyres - that way all 3 cars will be even ;).

Why aren't they doing a proper test and using stock vehicles with the same tread? or even a price budget on each vehicle to test bang for buck? ;)

I would of thought, and correct me if im wrong here, but a complete, stock standard RRC with original runnig gear (10 spline), running say 31's, would be too good against a jap 4wd...

And I should WARN potential candidates that Boxer is one UGLY mofo... so only look at him within short spans of time, else you may turn to stone. hehe

You'll have to give us all the run down / low down on it all after the shoot. Hell, Roothy may even do a crazy one pot for lunch! :D

Ive got to say that Ive really been enjoying the mags more since they've been getting into Rovers over the last year or 2 and it not being all Cruiser, Hilux and Patrols.

Rather than X2:p I aggree with you:D
They now seem to see the real world now:cool:. I have had a contact for when mine are up to scratch. May be a wile for my Rangie, but the 120 is sorted other than tyres:mad:

There must be another tough 120 0ut out there.
I haven't submitted any pics or video of mine yet.

Mine is only a Turboed 5 speed 4BD1 with maxi sals rear end and Arb locked Hi-tough 24 spline front with a few other mods.

Had a thread on it but let it die:(

Your Rangie would be more agile and stronger anyway:)

I'm sure it would hold its own against that cummins powered 47 they have.

good work ash, have you still got tread on those procomps??:o

would've loved to pit the old 90 (1987) against similar vintage japs....

what years (manufacture) where they looking at???

Maggot4x4
20th March 2009, 07:56 AM
It was up against Milo (The green 13BT powered 47) and a 2 year old KJ Jeep 4 Door.

I had a blast, it was great fun.

I can't tell you the result or what happened but not all the trucks came home in one piece. Rangie is fine :P

I was given a brand new set of Cooper STT's for the event. I was surprised how well they went, I had never rated them as a tyre before.
