Hi guys
there's a brand new unregistered 03/08 D3 TDV6 SE that i'm looking at buying froma dealer. the additional bits are rear a/c, metallic/xxx paint, and 18" rims. the rear a/c was a must have for me.

They ensured a full tank of diesel and chucked in some floor mats.

is this price about right? or do you think i can ask for some other dealer fitted extras? and what?

Cheers
Eugene

Seems rather more expensive (around 8K?) than the prices I've seen of late. The SE has 18" rims std.

A touch on the expensive side I'd say. At least $4k off that.

Haggle like mad. They are selling zip, so will be interested at prices they would have previously laughed at.

Don't be embarrassed to make a silly offer.

In today's (Saturday's) Sydney Morning Herald several Sydney based dealers are advertising 09 V6 SE models for $59,990 plus dealer and Gov. charges. Maybe worth checking or using as a bargaining tool.

An idea of your city or even the State would help.

also be aware that at this time of year, there are many 08 builds with 08 compliance. look for 08 build with 09 compliance, or even better, 09 build and 09 compliance. At the annual depreciation on these things, thae extra year means a lot.

Hmm
We have a 05 V6 for sale at $35k in local paper. Done 35k km's.
These cars do drop a bomb and $80k does sound steep, if the guys are saying they are doing run outs much cheaper.
Ask for 3 years free servicing and the like.
tank of juice just gets you home.

Good luck shopping though.

I don't really want to say where i am coz there's only one dealer, but i'm not in a large town with millions of people.

the dealer actually has a good reputation....it that possible?

I thought about that after I'd thrown the paper out, but it will be on their website know doubt. I does seem too good to be true, especially as one dealer told me that LR sales were exceeding their budgets.

That seems amazingly cheap,. more like the V6 SE price, not the TDV6 SE. And I know you WOULD know the difference :D;). Was it a new car or used? If new then you got a fantastic bargain

List prices are all well and good, but when you add GST, dealer delivery, Luxury Car Tax and the like the price rockets. When I bought mine 3.5 yrs ago, it cost me over $80K on the road. Have a look at this message from an old thread where I broke down the on-road cost of a TDV6 SE: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/general-chat/51450-test-drives-discovery.html#post690673

Please bear in mind that the above is an older thread and as such I think there's much more discount available in these current "Credit Crunch" times.

Thanks for the replies. looks like no one is willing to offer the SE TDV6 with rear a/c for less than 78000.

i don't understand the fees bit of the pricing but from d3jon's email sometimes it's up to 10k. if the 09 SE starts at 75K RRP then the approx price is 85K DRIVE AWAY.

so maybe the 78k for an 08 is about right?? oh well i don't care anyway....interest rates are low....the time is right!!!

now the meeting with the bank and yipeee...i've been waiting since 2005 for this moment in time!!!

Defenda90, thanks for the offer but it's ok...it doesn't look like there's much margin in these cars.

List prices are all well and good, but when you add GST, dealer delivery, Luxury Car Tax and the like the price rockets.

LCT is included in LR pricing as is GST.

All new vehicle prices include Luxury Car Tax (LCT) where applicable, and are recommended retail prices (RRP) excluding dealer delivery charges which may vary from dealer to dealer, stamp duty which varies from state to state, registration and compulsory third party insurance costs. All factory fitted optional extra prices include LCT and are RRP.

On top of the "price" you'll need to pay:
- stamp duty
- luxo car tax
- rego
- dealer delivery

all of which can add up to $10k, mostly in the first two on which there is no negotiation room, it's a govt tax.

If you can, consider a novate lease. They can score you some good deals, and also the LR three-year free servicing. You can also novate-lease a secondhand car up to a certain age.

Also ask about demonstrators even in other states.

I would suggest at $78,000 they have a still have a little room to move. You won't get a price with a 6 in front driveaway for a newie in that spec though.

I have just spoken to Trivett LR.

As I thought, RRP includes GST and LCT but not dealer delivery, registration , nor stamp duty.

Schmoogene, we just recently went through the process of pricing an 09 S and 09 SE. While we ended up buying an S, I think you can still do a bit better on an SE. PM me if you would like any details.

There were 2 at the Adelaide Dealers, Both 08 TDV6SE

Black - No rear A/C - Premium Sound
Rimini Red - Rear A/C - White/Cream Leather, Base Sound...

We chose the Red one....

Drove it out the door, 6km on the clock.. For $64990.00 with 12 months Rego.

They chucked a few little things in, Mats, Tank of Diso.. etc...

Was too good a deal to refuse.

thanks ian. it looks like i'm paying 09 prices for an 08 car!!!! i think it's too late anyway..i've sort of committed to this dealer who has been really calm about the whole thing....compared to the other guy who's talking faster than a rabbit runs!!! hate that type of sales...and he's gonna lose out too!!

i'm not sure how the run out pricing works...does the dealer get money back from LR for reducing their price?

If you haven't signed you haven't committed.

Back it out!

I'm not sure about runout prices but the dealer gets about $5k for demonstrator models. Ours was a demonstrator and he passed that onto us and the car had only done 5km! I'm sure they'd get something from for runouts however.

Do you have to buy from your local dealer, or can you do it 'over the phone' with a city dealer?

Just jumped on Barbagellos site in perth, they have a petrol 08 petrol v6 SE for 59000 with 12500 k's on it excl govt charges.

Southerns 09 TDV6 SE is listed at 75990, and TDV6 S for 67590. And this is perth!

Keep trying, remember its your money.

The price you should pay for new is at the most RRP on the road. Anything more they are not trying or you are not being agressive enough. Go atthe end of the month when the sales manager will want as much in that month as poss.

That 08 SE at barbagello's is an abosolute beauty, really nice, it is basically brand new and wont last long. I wanted to buy that one but ended up with a 05 SE for 20k cheaper as 60k was just out of budget and left no room for accessories.

i'd really like to buy locally because we only have two dealers in the NT and only one in Darwin. we don't have the dealer support that other states have and the dealer that i'm buying off has been selling landies since the 70's. if it keeps a LR dealer going in the NT, that's better for all you mob who travel up here too.:)

the car borkers couldn't do me a significantly cheaper price for the spec and it's a good service and worth keeping.
