Just collect my 110 back from the garage after allowing them free rein over inspecting and servicing my 110. It did 25,000 miles (40,000 km) in Oz. Well apart from a major 24,000 mile service what was 'wrong' with my 110?

Steering pump was leaky.
Rear flange was leaking.
Oil leak from oil filter
Rear half shafts need replacing as a slight twist at diff end.
Front CV joints needed replacing
New discs and pads all around

We need to sort out the rear suspension now and the batteries need replacing. Then the electrics need upgrading, fit a mud console, wire winches so can control them from yhe cab.

So overall the 110 stood up extremely well to its Australian trip.

Next thing is to work out where we go next. Australia is possible in 2011/12

Will keep you posted about our 'adventures'

Regards

Brendan

Congrats on the trip hope you had a good time.Just fwt on the 110 hey?:D
I notice your oil filter was leaking. My filters seem to be ok till 5/6ooo then start to leak at seal. A quick twist stops the leak but why do they hold for so long then start? :(
I service the disco (td5) myself and filter is fitted with oil smeer and last couple times greased new seal. Have been doing my own servicing for over 45 years, boats cars 4x4s m/bs and trucks and the td5 is the only veh that does this.
If I tighten with filter tool it doesn't seem to make any diff.
Force of habit makes me do a first service:angel: each time I drive it,so it aint no biggie, just a quick twist.
Motor has just clocked up100000 since chipped and goes great.
cheers

ps I wonder how many know what a first service is.:)

Covered quite a lot of Oz. Details can be found HERE (http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/forum/viewtopic.php't=404&start=0)

The 'damage' as such is really only to be expected after such a long trip in the Outback. It was really a culamative effect of driving in the Outback.

Personally I think the 110 stood up very well to the trip and I look forward to returning to Oz

The collateral damage

Unloading a 110 that has been in Oz for well over 6 months into the downstairs of a house -washing stuff!, finding homes for stuff, and the RED DUST blooming stuff gets everywhere.

And question is will the customs fuss about the Aussie muck when we come back? Cos somehow I think we will struggle to get shut of it!

Hi Lewy, gud morning to you. Am enjoying a glass of wine (or 2/3/4) before going to bed.

Half shafts were standard half shafts. Can not remember when/if they have been replaced before. Which means they are 'well used'. Have been discussing why they were damage/whether to upgrade them etc. Best advice I think I have received is to keep with standard shafts. It being easier to replace a broken half shaft then a diff/prop shaft/gear box in th middle of nowhere.

The oil filter was an original LR filter. Probably loosen because of the corrugations.

As for collateral damage, I have not got around to washing the recovery gear yet. Sssssssh everyone

perhaps brendan you could blame the co driver for twisting the axles during one of the many times he got bogged:twisted:.

Do you think I could get away with passing that part of the bill over to him for paying??

Somehow I think I know the answer now! Jon is a Yorkshireman. Definition of a Yorkshireman is a Scot with all the genourosity squeezed out of him! :p
