Is the rear aircon for a D3 factory fitted or is it a Distributeror, stealer fitted option ?
I found a 06 SE I'm thinking about. After talking to a few people and seeing posts here, I would like to have the rear A/C fitted in my next vehicle.

i only found this out recently...the d3 comes with rear a/c on the back of the centre console as standard.
the whole hog is the a/c vents on the roof!!! that's the $$.

Actually, rear aircon involves a second system, not just vents on the roof, that is independently controlled.
Also, there are outlets to the third row.

Jamo, when you look at the pictures on the net, sometimes you get interior pics from the boot and you can see some circular things on the roof in the second row.
does this mean that there is full 2nd, 3rd row ac or are there blanking plates for models without the full rear ac?

If it has rear air it will have vents if not no vents.
I have no rear air and the dog hasn't complained yet.:D

The following are pictures from my car before I sold it.

Above Picture - All D3's get these rear vents to the 2nd row seats.

With the rear air-con option you get separate controls for the independently operated rear air-con unit with extra roof vents.

You also get these extra vents for the third row seats.
My opinion FWIW... Unless you regularly have people in the third row seats, I wouldn't bother with the rear air-con option. I very rarely used it and only had it because it was free on my car. If you carry your pets around then it may be a good idea.

The rear AC is a cheap (by LR standards) option. The dogs love it on the really hot days. Back seat users enjoy have their own AC controls.
I had it as a must have option (and I have it).
IMO the factory fitted musts are
Electronic rear diff
Rear A/C
Adaptive bi-xexons
The nice ones (I don't have them on the D3 but on my Eos) are
Sunroof
Heated seats :)

I agree with Desert Traveller.
Plus the rear aircon helps bring the interior to the right temp faster on extreme days.
Mine's permanently on!

Rear AC also reduces load on your fridge when its in the back:D

Just remember, in the 3rd row, no windows to open. Definitely gets fuggly back there on a warm day without the 2nd air con on.
Mine is always on, even just with the kids in the second row.
Don't get the alpine roof if you are not going to get the rear air con.
