how you do that with the tone mapping again?
or just buy dodging and burning in photoshop

If it were mine I would of cropped it tighter (square) to lose the distraction in the back ground

The photo was taken with my 18-200mm Nikon lens on D80. Had SB800 on light stand and with umbrella. Was exposed for the background and flash for my dogs face. Edited in Lightroom, and that's it !

And dog treat in the left hand  and me on the ground !

I think the crop would be good on the last one.

you captured the eyes well.....I'm yet to play around with my SB800 I have no idea how to use it:D

So I take it to get the third one you just adjust colour and saturation etc.. and put a bit of vignetting in

SB800 easy to play with :D you should follow some of the sites, like strobist an the likes, makes it a lot easier ! also on flickr there is plenty of information.

The lightroom settings i used, can't really remember, i think u have it from memory !! search for a flickr ground called lightroom presets i think it is called... very handy !!

yeah I agree Dave
I really like number 2 as well!! but the third just has more detail and texture about it sometimes taking the colour out can be less of a distraction

the original is a great shot......but because you have put them all next to each other 2 and 3 make 1 look very flat now!

great job Matt I commend you for always playing, I don't feel like I have picked my camera up in ages

Just get out there and play !!! I have two mates with awesome camera gear, but i never see them take any photos !!!

Anyhow, back to the theme I started the other day of "Half the camera, half the photo!!" :D

Forgot.... SB800 on stand and umbrella and of course the dog treat in one hand to get the right expression ;)

I really like the pic above - the rest of the dogs head would have been nice too.

Of the the 1,2,3 I like 1 the best, the others are unnaturally sharp imho.

I think that is the effect he is going for! what he has done in pics 2&3 are becoming very popular in camera magazines these days obvioulsy the in thing at the moment......is to have great composed pics that are not so natural looking.....

it appears its not so much these days about how well a composed shot you can take and even how well you capture the moment but how well you can post process.....what tip and tricks you have up your selve:o

I find using toys help....my boy stays perfectly still and can balance stuff for ages until I tell him he can take it

Of the top 3 I think that #1 is the best. The idea will be to have something in between #1 and # 2.

The image on post #8 is spot very good, you got the idea on that one.

Cheers
