G'day All, I am taking a Series Land Rover to Corowa next month, what I need to know, when I access the toll road M2 (I will have a E-tag) will I need any coins??, we did use this road some 15 months ago on the return journey from Victoria, and I remember nearing the end of the toll road there was a person in a toll booth collecting loot (aka money) is this still the go and more importantly does it happen on the way South?? cheers Dennis:angel:

you shouldn't have to give money on any of NSW tolls if you have an Etag
just make sure you dont go to the cash sid and that you drive through the tag side

Since Dennis lives in Cessnock, I would assume he wouldn't bother owning an eTag Lou... ;)
You can get a "pass" which is basically a prepaid ticket which means when you drive through the eTag lanes on the toll roads, the cameras pick up your rego plate as being authorised (ie - checking your ticket electronically)
See RTA website. ;)
Saves stuffing around with coins. ;)
To answer your exact question, the M2 does have cash booths. I assume you will be getting on at Pennant Hills Rd after coming off the F3, and going to the M5/M7 to head south? If so, that will be $2.20 thankyou - payable at the on ramp.

No, the E-Tag is all you need, stay in the lane marked E, you can't miss them, it's only the M2 that has booths, from where your coming from, the rest of the trip is none at all.

Which bugs me no end.
As a resident of NSW, why the hell should I have to stuff around for several hours applying for a pass several weeks ahead of a trip (who the hell knows where they'll be any given week anyway ?) just to have the privilege of driving on a public road, and not being a Sydney local I struggle to find my way around anyway, let alone try and avoid these pass only roads where all the arterials feed you into them
Yep NSW definitely stands for 'Newcastle Sydney Wollongong'
I actually have a Roam account, but it only works on the M7 and there are no entries since June '07 so I'm damned if I'll organise and pay for an e-tag.

Why not go Cessnock, Milbrodale, Putty Rd, Singleton Rd, Wilberforce Rd, Windsor Rd, Right into Macquarrie St, Right into Richmond Rd then Right at the M7 then M5 and on to Corowa, this avoids the M2 altogether.

G'day All, Thanks for the replies, re the E-tag, my wife informed me that she could get a 3 month e tag from the rta so thats what I intended to do, I did know about the Putty rd way but I'm just looking for the quickest route Sth in a S2A 109 Ambulance, not the fastest machine on the road LOL anyway cheers Dennis:angel:

Sorry Lou! :o My mistake! That'll teach me for nervously skimreading when I should be working... :p
Rick - I agree that it's crap. Why do we pay taxes? To build Roads. So why do I pay tolls? Double dipping scumbag pollies.
However, you say you have a Roam "account". Do you mean you have a Roam eTag? If so, you can use it on all toll roads. All eTags work on all toll roads. ;)
Perth has the right attitude - no toll roads at all. :D

No, it's an Roam E-Pass, and it only works on the M7, which was Sydney's first "Cashless" toll road. Despite the fact that Transurban own and operate the M2, M7 and M5, the E-Pass only works on the M7, which I found to my economic embarrasment when using the M7 onto the M2 and using the Tag/Pass lane with the 2 different "E" logos. I was sent an e-mail with my E-Pass account number in the text saying I was not a recognised user of the M2 E lanes and had to pay an aditional $10 "Plate reading fee" on top of the toll.
Despite that, the toll orbital roads are the quickest way to get from one side of Syd to the other. M7 and M5 have shaved 45 min off a trip to the Airport for us.

Wierd - I didn't know that you could get an ongoing e-Pass!
Yep the do make things quicker, except in peak hour where they are a great place to park while you listen to the radio and drink coffee... :p
Thanks mate. :)

What gets me is that if you use the M7 you also have to effectively us the M2, even though the M2 leg is only about 2 ks - double dipping at its best. Why not end the M7 at Pennant Hills Road - or better still why not swing the M7 north behind Castle Hill to join the F3 near Hornsby somewhere. That little leg up Pennant Hills road really slows the trip down.

WHAT, are you mad, that's to logical:D
How many freeway/motorways end in a rediculous place in this country, 99% of them, why, because they build 3 at a time and run out of money instead of buiding one at a time so it gets finished all the way to where it should, and also they should be 3 LANES not 2.
The M5 and F4 and western distributor east have got to be the bigest jokes ever built.

Don't get me started on the F3 north, I'm surprised knowone has nominated the building of the road to the Guinness book of records for the longest time to build a road:eek: the god dam Romans built a road across Europe in less time:twisted:

When going north - my GPS keeps on telling me to get off the M7 where it crosses the M4 and cut across country and rejoin the M2 about where the M7 ends so cutting out that big useless loop on the M7. That is with 'fastest' route selected not "shortest".
I have never done so I don't know what the cross country route would be like.

I'm pretty sure once upon a time the e-pass worked on both the M2 and M7 when I first acquired it, or at least we used both motorways with two vehicles and a horse float, and I can't remember any excessive charges.
I have no idea why it doesn't anymore.

Dinty, the Putty Road is my preferred route south, but SWMBO reckons it was kinder and easier on her and the horses to go the freeway. It's a longer distance for us but about the same time with the float to our friends place at Mulgoa where we usually stay with the neddies.
I've travelled back and forth on the Putty literally hundreds of times over several decades and it's a good drive these days, hardly any trucks at all, but I am in a Defender, not a 109 IIa :D
