Any one know if the 'Master' range of Mig welders is any good?

After some feedback if possible.

Thanks
Pete.

No idea on that brand, maybe you could Google up some info, I went for CIG because parts and consumables (tips, wire, gas) are available almost everywhere, Regards Frank.

Hi Pete,

I'm assuming you mean Weldmaster range? I recently went through the mig selection process, but hadn't come accross the brand either. Could be that they're relatively new (?)

I just had a look at the weldmaster site, and they seem to be offering "lifetime warranty", which can't hurt.

In any case, I found this mig buying guide (http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/buying.htm) very useful, and the site in general had good info.

After looking for Aus based brand name discussion I found a bunch of stuff on(woodworkforums.com (http://www.woodworkforums.com)), &
ended up going for a CIG Transmig as well.

I ended up going for the Transmig cos I got one at a good price, & it had great spare parts and support (as Frank mentioned) & it got positive reviews from people that have used several brands.

I may have just as easily ended up with either a WIA, Mig o Mag, Unimig, or Kemppi. Cebora & Lincoln Electric also had good reviews, but were quite pricey.

Good luck

Thanks guys,

Yep I think a Cig is at the top of my list too.

Yep googling also led me to the weldmaster site. Not much info about (this thread was the 4th result on google!!)

Probably says enough at the moment to buy a better known brand.

Thanks again.

Try to stay with CIG / Miller brands as their parts and spares are pretty good. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for. I have a CIG tig and mig.
no problems whatsoever. I bought a chinese tig and it only had a few hours
work as it was out of warranty and died i took it to a fellow who repairs welders. He said they dont have an Austraian standards wiring code or parts.
He also said stick with CIG ect as he has never been able buy parts or repair one sucsessfully yet. Just my thoughts

My Father In Law used to do a lot of welding. He even sold welders for a while. The best were the Ausmig ones (made in Melbourne) and these had a very high duty cycle. SIP (made in Italy) welders were very good too, and the duty cycle varied with the size (professional quality) of welder that you bought. They were a quality value for money option when you were shopping in the HOBBY range.
