OK Guys need some advice/guidence please. I've got the dreaded broken spring in the driver's door lock mechanism that won't let the button come back up when you unlock the door so I can't get in unless I open the back door and reach in to pull the button up. What I need to know how to get to the little spring to replace it (I've got a new one). I've checked the archives with out much luck. Do I need to pull the door frame off to get to the mechanism and if so what do I have to be careful of so I don't stuff up something important. Any advice/pics would be greatly appreciated
Cheers

hey nick this happened on my disco and was the actuator thing not pushing up enough. i had another disco here with the same problem that had an extra actuator fitted to push up and it worked well.
if it is the actuator - i have a few doors here your more than welcome to pinch some bit's off to try and sort it.

I have this problem on two of my Disco doors, can it be adjusted?

Thanks Jason & Mike, the actuator seems to be working OK but there is this little spring down in the guts of the linkages near the lock that is broken and from what I can sus out it needs to be replaced. Its job seems to be to lift the button the last little bit so that the door unlocks properly. Jason I'll give you a call and come and check out one of your doors to see if its the same as the Rangie

Gday Mike,
I had a disco commercial in the u.k. they had bars with plastic clips that seem to give after a while it was a case of changing them out, boy it was fun as it was the rear door and had a dog guard to get that unlocked ....i remember use of a broom handle came into play often ...but back to your question is it a spring or a bar in your RR ? if it is the little cheap arse bars like in defender and disco, i would suggest its a case of changing them out for new, although disco defender have different designs in retainers, it'll be a simple job that is a total tedious pain in the rectum, i have a landy mag with pictures of a rear side door build up from scratch i could scan and send that to you if its any chop regards andy

I had this problem with 3 of my door s on my disco and on all three it was just the spring that needed replacing replaced them and they have not missed a beat since.....I know thiis doesn't help you directly as it was a bitch of a job for us as well but thought I would write it as everyone seems convinced your not looking at the right thing. But I would assume that you have seen the borken spring with in the lock?
Ian acutally change mine in situ which is what made it hard on the disco....little bit of contorsion and bent needle nose plyiers where what were used
this is what Ian did for mine not a rangerover I'm sorry but may give you some ideas

Thanks Andy & Dullbird, had a look on the weekend, pulled the trim and took out the door handle and I could see the broken little spring way down on a lever near the door lock if you looked through the door handle hole with a torch. Looks like the whole window frame needs to come out so that the door lock can come out to get to the little bugger. Question is how to pull the window frame off? Might need to talk to some of the surgeons at work to see if I can borrow some really long forceps and an endoscope otherwise the window frame has to come off.

no worries butt, i have a few here so you can take what you need. i also have a few spare rangie doors (2 door model) so what you need should be here somewhere.
on another note 1 of my rangie doors has had a square cut out of it(inside obviously) to enable you to get your arm inside the door to the lock mechanism - is this something that might be easier to aid getting to said bit?

Problem fixed thanks to Jason - ta mate.
Door came apart OK, trim off, window up, undo the window frame and lift so you can get to the door lock, undo all the linkages, take out door handle, undo and lift up door lock until you can see the broken little spring and replace it, then put it all back together. All up took about an hour. At last I can use the drivers door again with out having to open the back door to lift the button on the front. Thanks again Jason

Hi Neil, sorry for the late reply but just got back from the Kimberley last night. Got one spring from a guy in melb but got the other from Jason from a Disco 1 door lock. Apparently you can get a set of four on ebay
