I happened to be looking at the NAS defender parts break down - and that shows the mounts used for the roll cage that they fitted from the factory. The mounts in the rear bolt to the wheel box and then to the chasiss rails.

I was most surprised to find that the mounts have been factory fitted in the PUMA - at least the rear most ones. Looks to be exactly the same part. I think it's there to provide stiffness for the new seats. But it's interesting to see they reused a lot of special parts in the new Defender.

Another example is the rear door latch which is different to the TD5 door latch - but looks like a Series 3 door latch. I suppose they kept all of the old designs for parts on file and just pulled them out as required. (Or perhaps they found a few crates of old parts to use up)

Assembled from a parts bin meccano set like.

The interior door handles are the same that British Leyland used on the Morris Marina and the Mini in the Seventies.

Lets face it....no one else builds vehicles like that anymore...and don't we love it...when was the last time anyone other than a Defender driver smiled and waved.
