G'day All, I know this sort of thread has been posted before, but this morning I was out in my 'Bloodbox' in the Pokolbin region and a young fella in a Disco actually waved at me, well I was so shocked by it I forgot to wave back, so i guess this is my public apology:D;):p jest in case you are a AULRO member cheers Dennis:angel::wasntme:
PS Lots of terrorists in the town today some B/s on out at tempus 2 winery, generally that brings a good thunderstorm here LOL:p:twisted:

On my current trip (so far home to Broken Hill to Adelaide to Melbourne) I have been carefully waving at all the Discos and RRs plus most of the Freelanders I have seen (although a few I have missed identifying in time to wave) - and have yet to get a wave back.

I know the feeling Dinty. Recently a red FL2 waved at me and I almost crashed! I wave to most but never bothered with the FL's.

Driving Ambrose North along Putty Rd on Saturday, I initiated a wave to a Deefer and got a lifted finger in reply... :( Lame.
The next car was a VB Commodore and he beat me to it with a full "arm out window flapping like a seagul" routine! :o

On a recent trip to SA I noticed that they're a lot more likely to wave from any sort of LR... Caught me off guard a few times!:)

When I first purchased my disco 5 or so years ago, hardly anyone would wave at me(even tho I was waving at them.
But for the last 6/7 months,I always seem to be getting a wave from mostly old rangies/disco's and defers.....:D

I tend to get a bit slack with the waving. Not too many get returned, I'm starting wave more often again though. Sometimes I just can't help myself.
I'm always looking for stickers, on pretty much any Landy I see. There's surprisingly few.

Don't knock the lifted finger (if you know what I mean :o).
When I was a kid living in the country near Casino, NSW, the finger lifted from the steering wheel was the standard form of acknowledgement. :BigThumb:

dad has collected (round bout 14 series ones) so i guess i can use collected land rovers since before i was born.
so when ever we are on the road we always waved to other landys
whether we were in the county, rangie or dads s1 58 lwb station wagon, it is rare to get a wave from a discovery. it is unknown whether a wave is returned from a free lander because we are too busy trying to work out if it is a freelander or a RAV 4.
and guys it is very nice when your out in central australia and you see another green county (we had never seen one Before) parked outside a pub. and by the time we have parked the owners are all ready bolting out of the pub camera in hand to take a photo of the pair.
thanks guys, (sorry about the huge post)

I wave when I notice landies. But I think I might have missed dobbo early last week.
I was on my way home from work on Broadmeadow rd (office now in Newie) and was adjusting left widow (so looking that way).
Just as I faced full ahead I noticed from corner of eye, a poo brown 110 heading the other way , but too late to see the driver or wave. I'm guessing it was dobbo heading to work.

Driving down the cunningham highway yesterday towing one of my series landies and i saw a nice bright red 130 towing a camper trailer, I waved but got to return. I was however driving an 80series Landcruiser as the tow car...
Whenever I tow something I always try to put a sign on the back saying "UHF 40" or similar, you'd be suprised who talks to you ;)

I am sort of a Kyogle bloke since i live in the Kyogle shire, though 25 km from the town center. Never found a problem with the Kyogle or casino blokes, but they probably consider me a new-be, as I have only lived here since 1990. Perhaps in another 10 years I will be considered a local. But I must get back to my banjo lessons for now.

Peter, It looks like I am in TK because I have not as yet, worked out how to change my profile. Got back to Melb in Nov 08 took some time holidaying with the family then, in Jan 09 I started getting ready for Ghana, had my Visa done, innoculations, Police check so I could get my residency in Ghana, airtickets in hand ready to fly out 27 Jan 09. The company called me 17 Jan to regretfully inform me that their bank was not approving their line of credit if they continued with the expansion (which was my employment). Disappointing. Took it like a big girl ( a brave one) and am soldiering on...with them owing me 3mths of pay because they broke contract.
Since then, I have been up for any number of job prospects between Afghanistan, Somalia, Mozambique, Bosnia...people asking for you to put your CV up to support their contract bid...none have won yet...something will arise.
Meanwhile, 7 Feb 09 bought the bushfires. I got a call, pulled the uniform back on and in turn, I have been the ADF Liaison Officer at the VICPOL SERCC (organising all sorts of requests), the DSE iECC (letting them know that soldiers should not be their first option to clean their toilets), then up to Kinglake to be the Community Liaison between Kinglake and Murrindindee Municipal Council, then managng ops on the Victim Searches, now back doing the very important capture on the 'Lessons Learnt'....and guess......what?
.....there are a few. Interesting month.
So..not quite unemployed...the Army will have me back in a blink...I am trying to resist that and trying to remain available to other opportunities.

I wave to deefers, moded discos and older LRs and RRs. My other half thinks I'm nuts, but it's fun to see the reactions. I get very few initiated waves, but that's probably coz I'm on the ball!
There's one chick, who drives a 130 out my street (pretty rare since it's a dead end in the long run) and she never waves.

A lift of the finger, a nod of the head, a full blown wave, their all the same,, and just being generally polite should dictate you return the gesture, but very few do :rulez:.
I've been waving at 4x4's for many years, and have had very few returns and its disapointing. The good news is, if your out in the farming sector, you'll get a wave from most of the older people, cars/trucks/tractors/bikes, :) Since having the disco (8-9 years) its become a Landy thing, the ex just couldnt get her head around it :clap2: and in the last year or so as well, any moded 4x4 will do,,
Bound to get a wave sooner or later Im sure:arms:

You did well
We didn't even get waves from all Defender drivers on our way south over Christmas
Very disappointing :(
where we got the bigest wave and a flash of headlights was just outside of Louth:D one of the very few vehicles we saw on that road

I got waves from several Discos and an old RR last week, but the only Defender I saw didn't respond.

Thats because you have to tow a series vehicle to get a defender driver to wave. I got three of them wave to me when I was towing a series 3 back from Maleny a couple of weeks ago.

I got a couple of waves on my way from NE Victoria to the Hunter Valley yesterday, couple of Defenders and few S1 Discos.
Also got one from a guy in a Defender going along the New England Hwy this arvo which was a bit unexpected as it looked like a work vehicle. Its always a nice feeling to get the wave back!

Horsham to Adelaide about a week ago I got a big wave from someone in a RRC with a big RMW sticker in the back window, near Bordertown. On the way home yesterday I got a big wave from someone in a Freelander just outside Horsham. I waved back both times :D.

Just got back from a weekend at Big River State Forest in Victoria. We waved to everyone on the dirt roads and got a wave back from everyone EXCEPT one guy in a d1 - the only other Land Rover we saw. Poor form I say!

The wave count on Sunday's trip to Wollombi and back via the Old Settlers (AKA Convict) Road:
2 Defender/County types
1 RR Classic
1 Discovery Series 3
1 Discovery Series 1
1 Toyota Troopy
1 Toyota Hilux :eek::eek:
So much for the Land Rover/Defender wave :p:D

I Live in the sorrento portsea area, I think the most populated lr / rr populated area in victoria, hardly ever gety a wave :( mostly only from older rr classics series lr and well equiped discos. Probly 20% success rate oh well keep trying:D

Don't wave to Toyotas, it's against the LR rules.

I wanted to wave my fist at a RRS in the car park at work this morning. Does that count?
Typical Vaucluse/Double Bay school run type, peroxide blonde hair and all. Type of person who can't even park a shopping trolley in the supermarket let alone a RRS.

I agree it is a nice feeling to get a wave back. What I have seen is that Disco's wave to Disco's. Fenders wave to Disco's (and vice versa) but Rangies.............Hmmmm. I think it is the understated minority that sticks together. I should know. I own a classic 1969 1800S Volvo that I love to death that looks so good the morons dont know what to say. We have "the wave" too but most modern Volvos dont wave back. Land Rover and Volvo go together very well.....great pionering marques that the majority make fun of. But at the same time copy. Take note Toyota.

In my case they waved to me...must be Land Rover envy.
It happens more than I would have ever imagined,

I just got my first landy in Aus, I'm a pom and always had one back home, so off I go on a little drive not knowing if landy drivers over here had the wave thing going.
I was so stoked when 10k's down the road I'd collected three waves :D (gave out two 'cause I was too shocked :o by the first to respond, 'who me?') - really made my day. Think I'll remember that journey for a long time.
So yes, wave early, wave often - spread the love a little and keep a bit of class around the marque. Can't say I get waved at whilst driving the works toyota.
peace.

You're lucky - I waved to two Discos on Sunday - one ignored me and the other gave a big wave back, so my strike rate was 50%. Maybe I should lean out the window and do a big windmill wave and point a lot. :D

OK does this mean,
1. ) He’s blind.
2. ) Wishes he too had an LR.
3. ) Ex LR owner and old habits die hard.
4. ) Being a Toyota driver, he is just happy that any body would bother to wave at him.
