A dry argument

Dry place Orstralya, particularly the Western third of the map, as a result I have become interested in water storage options for the trusty D2.
Usually carry two plastic jerries in the back lashed to the cargo barrier with cam straps, this provides about 50 litres but does involve a lot of awkward lifting and shifting about.....not easy on the back and has been known to cause outbreaks of intemperate language.
So if anyone has come across particularly effective/novel/useful solutions to this please feel free to tell me all about them.

We use one of the ARB 80L rear footwell bladders - nice and tough so the kids can put their feet on it. So far it's worked well though I can't recall ever needing to have it completely full. I like it as it keeps the weight down nice and low. Has a tap on both sides, which is handy if you end up parked on a slight slope.

That sounds like the go, we generally put rolled up self inflating mattreses in the rear footwell under the progeny's feet but the bladder could no doubt go underneath the mattresses.
80 litres is about what I was looking for, used to have 180 litres in the 110 but don't need that much these days don't tend to go in for the extreme desert treks as much.

They're not cheap - we probably paid around $200 - $250 from memory as part of a package a few years ago. You can do it cheaper by using a flexible tank designed for boats but they won't fit as well or be as tough (I have a couple on my boat). This fits perfectly in the space. The other advantage over a permanent solid tank is you take it out when it's not being used.

As I said, we've never had it completely full and been out for a week without running out. In fact it's amazing - we came back from one trip and I would have said it was pretty empty but for fun I emptied it into a 20L jerry - there was 1.5 can fulls in there!

Edit: just found a 2007 ARB price list - the general 75L bladder is listed @ $260 so maybe LR specific one is a bit more

Those are the ones. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Some, like the Disco rear footwell one are vehicle specific, others are just general. You can also get them for free space within door cavities etc.

The best thing about the Disco is it's flat floor across the back - perfect for this :)
