hi All,

I have just removed the old S1 windscreen and rubber which needs replacing. Below the windscreen (above firewall) i have scrapped and wire brushed to a clean surface then painted 'end rust or stop rust' paint but seems to still be not smoothly finished. before applying paint should i paint with primer or paint more then i coat of finish paint to smooth out the roughness. does it need primer or can i get away with a nice finish with couple of coats of paint. and where do i get the rubber replacement for the bottom of windscreen or should i try for a cheaper alternative from clark rubber. cheers :)

Primer Surfacer is your friend for a smooth finish. Apply a few coats, sanding back the high spots between coats. It dries fairly quickly but make sure it is thoroughly dry before applying your finishing coat/s.

The windscreen rubber that is attached to the fire wall are very hard to get here in Australia for both 80" and later series 1 Landys. Best bet is to go to DUNSFOLD DLRSPARE PARTS (http://www.dunsfold.com/Spares/PARTS.HTM) or John Craddock Ltd - Specialists in Land Rover Parts and Spares (http://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/)
