Wet Carpets

On a nice warm, muggy day, my 98 P38 has a habit of dumping freezing cold water onto my passengers feet when I go around corners. Although I personally enjoy this happening to them, I should really fix it.

How can I get to the air-con drain? Do I have to climb under the car? Can I just poke around with a bit of wire, or do I have to remove some parts from inside the car to clean it out properly? I did a search but came up with nothing.

Look carefully just above the carpet on the transmission tunnel (roughly where the radio ends). The left drain leaves the Air con there and exits through a little rubber flapper above each side of the transmission.

Locating these (both left and right) will give you an idea of where to look under the car.

From underneath looking up past each side of the trans you can see the flappers. They are round (approx 20mm dia) rubber domes with a split across them. Poking them with a long piece of wire fencing wire dia usually will dislodge the dust and crap that builds up in them.

If you are more adventurous from inside the cabin, using long needle nose pliers you can remove the rubber end that joins the A/C and blow them clean with compressed air.

The other thing that goes wrong is that water you found spilling on your passengers feet also soaks the computer diagnostic connector and corrodes it fairly quickly:eek:
