Well, yesterday, finally went to the dentist as a pointy bit of back molar was eating into the side of my mouth:(
The FIRST filling in my life!!, which was a biggun, has turned into an Xray, the bottom wisdom teeth are surgery jobs, the top 2 are through, but have nothing to bite against, so the dentist reckons "might aswell flick them out" and have to go back for another filling:(............the funny thing is........... the pain.............the upset tummy..................the man in my mouth, doesn;t bother me:eek:..............................but the cost:mad::mad::mad:
Yea, I'm a tightass:D

I'd bet you're not the only guy here far more scared of the bill the receptionist hands you than anything the dentist can do.
Wallet extraction is by far the most painful :p

I have a wisdom tooth coming up sidways, so long as it's clean it won't get infected and it has been like that for 10+ years. So don't think that you have to do it just because the dentist says so.

After braces, I think wisdom teeth pulling is probably the second most unneccisarily performed treatment.
My mum and dad both have straight teeth, as does my younger sister. All had wonky teeth as kids.
I also had wonky teeth as a kid, but I copped a mouthfull of braces. The result? My teeth are still wonky. Everyone elses straightened out with age, including my sister who was told that she "desperately" needed them. Fortunately economics intervened and now she has perfect teeth.

Yep, I had my old dentist very impressed when doing root canal once upon a time.
No needles, but the damn root was dead anyway........
He then proceed to saw another one in half to use as a post for a crown and bridge and no needle there either and that really impressed the nurse.
Thankfully the health fund forked out for that.
I've had a couple of fillings and I'll gladly take the needles for those jobs thanks, but thankfully not for a long time now :D

By far the worst thing about going to the dentist is the mandatory, cute young nurses they all have, the anesthetic and uncontrolled dribbling accompanied by loss of adult speech control. Must impress the heck out of the nurses!!!!!

perhaps in your case but in mine I have overcrowding and I have teeth that sit in front of others - braces would've corrected this.
Wisdom teeth though - you can have problems of infections. That said, every year or two when I have problems with mine I take some pain killers and put up with it for a few weeks.

Recently parted with over 6k at the dentist ..... yes that's right ... 6K ... not a typo ... 6K. Anyway, not sure if you are aware or not but once you reach $1,500.00 at the dentist or doctor what you spend beyond that is tax deductable, so try and do it all in 1 financial year.
I got back about 1.6k for my trouble ..... but just imagine what I could have got for the Disco with 6k .... oh the humanity .....

Just make sure you have a check before going travelling.
I found out luckily in Quorn that there are NO dentists between Port Augusta and ( well I do not Know Maybe Alice Springs ) but people go from Birdsville to Port Augusta.
BTW I found that medications were also a bit problematic when I tried to renew my script in Winton. I had to pick them up in Cloncurry next day, after they had been sent from Townsville

SEE that will teach you for not having 6 monthly checkups, instead of spreading the payments over the years you get the big whammy in 1 go now.
Yes I had the same thing happen to me, I have put a couple of dentists kids through uni and paid for exotic holidays for the dentist family.
I found though if you change dentists they all find that you are suffering from different diseases. I eventually found an old dentist that said there was no work to be done, but the bugger retired on me.
I paid big $ for a crown and when I complained about some pain later I was told "oh you didn't get the root canal done ( Oh, it's my fault now:eek:)
I'm still wandering around with a temp filling I had done 10 years ago, They said I needed a crown, but I needed the money more so never went back.
After the hour of work they put into the temp (plastic) I didn't have the heart to have all the handy work I paid Big $ wasted;)

I've got a tooth that needs root canal......
My dentist won't touch it, it "needs an orthodontic specialist"
My other choice is to have it pulled....but its one of my front teeth and I'm not sure about being gappy or having a plate.
Guess I should go see the specialist anyway for a quote but I'm thinking if a plain old checkup at the dentist costs $300+......what's a specialist going to cost for the first visit
Been mulling over this for 12months now....better decide soon or the "temporary" filling will fall out :(
NM, implants are just great. I have two of them. Only drawback is the cost. A single implant is about $5000. I had a plate whilst the implant foundation peg and bone graft were healing. That was enough to convince me that the price was immaterial if it meant not having a plate for the rest of my life.

Pulling is always the cheaper option.
I have one wisdom tooth left but its roots have formed a right angle. They go down then point to the rear of the mouth like barbs
I have had my share of idiot dentists though. They guy I use now is good but expensive. After he finished fixing the cock ups from others I have a few gaps. It's all cost several grand but in the end it has been worth it. I still have a couple of gaps in the back but to fix those requires a bridge (porcelain, gold and platinum) which will put me back about 7 g's - he refuses to use plates. Have to replace another crown that has come its end of life too :(

At least you have avoided RCT (Root Canal Therapy)...a delicate procedure that requires you to lie still for two hours with a rubber glove in your mouth whilst the contents of your wallet are removed via the larynx.
Why do Dentists drive Porsches and have a high rate of suicide?
Some have suggested their high rate of suicide is from all the mercury fumes from the amulgum fillings they put into your mouth that are killing you. I do have old Mercury almulgum fillings but wish I did not have them. If you eat coriander a lot your mercury amulgum fillings may fall out, as Coriander removes Mercury from your body so I have been told.

I wouldn't worry about mercury from amalgams, it's only a problem when in vapor form, you get a hell of a lot more mercury from fish. Occupational exposure for dentists used to be a problem in the old days, but hand pieces now have water jets to cool the drilled surface to prevent mercury from vapourising. I have it on good authority that if you accidentally swallow bits of amalgam, they go straight through without getting absorbed.
