hi all,

Would just like to thank everyone for there input on a previous thread i posted a few weeks back. I replaced the timing belt yesterday and was alot easier than i'd expected. Having comprehensive instructions helps!! It was easy but i've run into some unexpected/unresolved problems.

Firstly, On removing the timing cover i found a lot of oily sludge, fibres and some metal. I put this down to a leaking oil seal and the belt slowly degrading (please tell me if this is not right). Consequentally i've replaced the cam and crank shaft oil seals. As for the metal, it looks like the original crank shaft pully had a thin metal band? on the front edge. The pieces seemed to match up to it anyway (feel free to correct).

Secondly, following the instructions i removed the front glow plug the check TDC, and removed the others also, finding that the third and forth glow plugs had oil on them. I'm guessing that there isn't supposed to be any oil on glow plugs and oil is coming past the piston rings? This is my unresolved problem. Any input and enlightenment would be helpful, but probably depressing. I've had a quick search of the forum but no one metions oil and glow plugs in the same sentence.

Regards Jamie
