MPH to KMH is easy:
5mph = 8kmh
So 50 MPH = 80 KMH
80 MPH = 128 KMH
etc
I'd put a little red sticker at the normal speed limit points, eg: standard in-town is usually 60kmh? So that's a sticker at 37.5 mph or as close as you can get. With a speedo over-read of 10%, I reckon a sticker at 40 mph is fine.
clubagreenie
24th April 2012, 01:48 PM
In a series it's easy for the miles/kilometer conversion. It'll never go over 50 so ...
5 miles = 8km
20 = 30
30 = 50
40 = 60
50 = 80
isuzutoo-eh
24th April 2012, 01:53 PM
That'd be real easy except the speedo doesnt seem too accurate...I couldn't get it to register over 40MPH despite my Dad telling me I hit 90+Km/h. Could have pushed harder if it wasn't for traffic ;)
Bigger tyres than original, slippery speedo cable, not sure the cause yet. And nowhere to plug a GPS in to keep me honest :p

Congratulations Mark! Bet you are happy :)

1.62km = 1mile .... multiply speedo by 1.62 ... how hard is that :p

40kph = 25mph
50kph = 30mph
60kph = 37mph (40)
70kph = 43mph (45)
80kph = 49mph (50)
90kph = 55mph
100kph = 61mph (60)

Agree with Booger re timing, and probably a pretty easy fix.
I'd be checking the points gap first then advance the timing a bit using the micrometer adjustment. If 'popping' disappears then continue to advancing until it starts to ping under load then back off adjustment until pinging stops. Beats using a timing light and you are setting your timing under actual road conditions for your vehicle.
Happy Series motoring.

400km is a heck of a long way in a series! I take my hat off to JDNSW for the number of times he has made it to the expo from here. Driving post sundown is interesting, four candlepower leaping forward the chill wind billowing around you and you look above the windscreen to see the glorious milky way and a crescent moon.
Old Mary is now ensconsed behind some old bikes alongside some fantastically restored oldies, not too far from the 15 million dollar Polair 4. She looks a bit more careworn than anything else here. Whilst i'm a guest of her majesty!
Good luck with your journey Roger.

All 500 miles done and dusted. What a fantastic drive. Stopped by Keithy73 and Gromit68's places on the way back, any excuse for a leg stretch and a chat!
Along the way ol' Mary lost a pin in the handbrake mechanism so it doesn't work, some nuts rattled off the bolts holding the rear seats in, the bolt that holds the rocker cover breather has gone missing and in order to sound like a tractor, an exhaust gasket leak has developed-now both my Landies have this latter ailment.
The Dubbo Police Spectacular was...well...spectacular. Polair 4 was there, Museum of Fire had some big red trucks, an armoured van that weighs 5.2 tonnes but with tyres rated to 1200kg per corner, there were cars from 1911 to the present-most older cars were representative of Police vehicles from different eras but not all actual Police vehicles, horses, motor bikes from 1908 or so-two with sidecars, weaponry, taser demonstrations, stories of murderers, missing people, hangings, holds ups...
 I played tail-end Charlie in the street parade with Polair roaring overhead and practically everyone in town lining the streets, and Mary won the 'Best Police Car' trophy, which being engraved glass is awfully hard to photograph but looks great on my shelf!

Missed an LROCS easy/new members trip today, bit of a false start this morning.
 So went for a scenic trip drive instead, found some scrabbly sand and loose rock climbs with minor rock steps. These little motors just don't give up, very flexible, lugging away without throttle long after I expected it to give up. The suspension and wheelbase gets a bit dicey on potholed gravel roads, could end up pointing towards the verge if not careful.

HI, Great to see you restoring and keeping it orig :) yes those little 2.25's hang harder than a pitbull! I have a '66 SWBsofttop that was bought new in march 1966 by my grandfather for the property. In '91 and '95 mate and I took it to Cape York and across the Gulf into the territory,8 weeks of fun each time and not a Hiccup, even towed a mates Jackeroo after his clutch died :DDD It still works on the property but only fun now, replaced with a 300TDi defender so rest assured yours will last a loooong time! enjoy!

The difference between being a pig to drive and a pleasure, is a good fuel pump.
The last couple of months I just couldn't get a decent tune, adjusted everything, replaced sparking plugs, new leads, fresh fuel, just didn't want to run well. Drove it to All British Day relying on the choke to have enough power to get it up hills and low range for hill starts.
 Preparing today for the Expo tomorrow I moved it onto the lawn for a wash, but Bloody Mary flatly refused, even low range first was stalling.Took the County to the servo to get some more fresh fuel as it was getting low, still didn't help. No hidden fuel filters anywhere to cause problems (or catch rubbish :eek:), no rubbish in the sediment bowl anyway, but still any more than idle was stuttering spurts followed by trying to stall.
 Bit the bullet and fitted the fuel pump I had bought months ago as a spare. They are pretty cheap from UK ebay.
 Now she fires on first blip of the starter without choke, flies up hills, steep hill starts don't require any clutch slipping, she's purring smoothly at idle, minimal popping in the exhaust, no backfiring and I am a happy chap again!
Off to Castle Hill for the Expo tomorrow with a spring in her step :)

On another note, the Ridge Ryder 'RV Roof Pack' roof rack bag from Supercheap Auto fits between the wheel arches in the IIa quite well, and the zip is around the top, so it'll be easy to keep gear both dry and dust free as well as accessible when truck-cabbing or no-cabbing around.

Happy 51st birthday Mary!
I have had a bit of a problem with the dizzy-the flange where the clamp seats had cracked and collapsed and wouldn't let the timing adjust properly. Could get it right but it'd vibrate back to where it wanted to be before too long.
 This evening I fitted an Accuspark electronic ignition distributor. Very easy to install, even came with enough wire length to hook up properly. Maybe an hour with a bit of fiddling with other stuff in the middle.
Took it around the block, gee a strong spark is a good spark!
Now to give it a longer run to see if what I thought was a leaning out problem is indeed still a problem or not.

7th April 2016, 10:21 AM
Last weekend's Capertee trip with the LROC(S) was a fun time, without any real problems and with plenty of adventure.
 After leaving the Chook Shed, good time was made back home to pick up the pups before heading West. Just after leaving home the first sharp hill was encountered, and sure enough, the clutch slipped in fourth, and again in third; but momentum and a calibrated right hoof carried us over. A bit of a tense moment though, especially as Bells Line of Road has some proper big hills early on.
 Anyway headed out through Richmond and assaulted the big hills of the range, it must have been some oil on the clutch from years of being parked up and there wasn't any further slippage until my partner drove it with poor technique :angel:. One tank of fuel was enough for Blacktown to Capertee and trundling down to Glen Davis. I carried two jerry cans just in case!
 Unfortunately I thought I had developed an issue with charging, but turns out a battery clamp had worked loose and fallen off and I had driven around for hours without a battery connected. Have to love a generator sometimes!
Brendan and Mike helped fix it, with some coke can packing material to allow the clamp to properly tighten.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/04/743.jpg
Late Saturday afternoon as the sun was setting I thought it'd be good to take the Series up Mt Torbane (via Mt Airly property), Mike, Brendan and Sasha joined with their Stage 1, late 2a Station Wagon and GQ Pootrol respectively. The little shorty with gnarly tyres had minimal troubles, though one spot needed a second go due to me being used to coil spring articulation...
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/04/744.jpg
Mike needed a couple of soft snatches up the rutted section, which ol' Mary accomplished with aplomb.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/04/745.jpg
Actually, whilst manouvering into position to aid Mike, I learnt a little about leaf springs, bouncing and throttle control. I had reversed down the soft slope a little, and the hand brake wouldn't hold so I set the hand throttle to give it some revs whilst engaging the clutch and holding the foot brake on. The masses of power from the 2.25 petrol caused the wee Landy to launch in second low and scrabble around, the leaf springs caused kangaroo hops causing even more lack of traction so I felt more revs were needed. Looking back and after a bit of experimentation on similarly steep sections on Sunday, I reckon first low and idle would have let it walk up without an issue, using torque not power. The shoes have great grip even at highway pressures.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/04/746.jpg
Sunday's drive home was via the Great Western Highway, most of which has pretty low road works speed limits, nonetheless 80km/h was a good cruising speed, 90 was achievable when needed and over 95ish the tyres vibrated too much to be comfortable.
Approximately 350 miles of mixed low range mountain climbing and full speed blacktop, used roughly 100 litres of fuel, so around 18l/100km or 15.5MPG.
Good times!
