What on earth thype of tool is supposed to be used for removing the rocker cover bolts which are like a 12 sided bolt or something?? I cant get a conventional socket on them or a spanner in that space so what am I suposed to use??

The bolt in question is in the centre of the pic below:

You just need an 8mm 12pt (point) socket. Any decent too shop will have one.

If you fill out your location in your profile, someone might be able to lend you one.

Stuee,

8mm, 12 point (Double hex) socket will do it. I use a long reach 3/8" drive socket.

Fun things they are. If I ever have to pull mine out again I'll put allen heads back in instead.

Funny , I thought they were 5/16" 12 point , deep socket in 1/4" drive?

Good advice.

Only thing for me is that I'm only pulling one off to mount a temp sensor under it, and if I buy the tool I'd only get to use it 3 more times :(

Do they have a tendency for rounding do they?

Absolutely!

They get gunk around them which means you are not left with much of a contact patch. Spray some degreaser down onto the heads of the bolts before you try to undo them.
This mainly goes for the inlet manifold side.

I've rounded off two of mine.
