Hey Friends,

I am in the middle of the restoration of my 1965 LWB SIIA and am starting to turn my attention to the upholstery. About 80% of the seats have the original Ele-hyde in good condition, but I am having a tough time finding matching material for the others here in the U.S.

Any luck Down Under?

Many thanks,

Greg

Do a google for "Exmoor Trim". They are a specialist upholsterer in the UK that do all the stuff you need and more. They are quite happy to send to the US

As far as I can tell, no one in the world (I have been checking as I need it for my series 1 SW) makes the original Elephant Hide.
Exmoor Trim in the UK make a replacement that is similar and they call it Elephant Hide but it is different - OK I guess if you are not a rivet counter or but a problem if you are trying to match something that is already in your car.

Yes, as Garry has mentioned, short of using real elephant hide:wasntme:, I think Exmoor have the closest reproduction that I have seen.

You could try Dunsfold Land Rover in Surrey UK as they had a roll or part roll a couple of years ago, but it was very expensive but worth a try I suppose.

Hmmm, seems that most folks only want to sell completed seats which is too pricy for poor pitiful me in today's (and yesterday's, hell things don't change much for me) economy.

I will keep looking... drat.

Harumph. I did find stuff that is close, but evidently it is woven with 24k gold. If I do the math right, it would cost me close to $2000US to do all the truck.

So, I did some stuff that is close, but I would have to recover everything to make the truck look the same. Also I found a vinyl which looks like tanned wildebeast... I am leaning that way, but not sold on the concept. I am not a "rivit counter" by any means, but this is a frame-off restoration afterall.

If you want, you can see where I am at with this thing at Project: Wilks - Land Rovers Only - Land Rover Forum (http://www.landroversonly.com/forums/f7/project-wilks-21863/)
