Ok there has been a few threads from me about my Defender ..

First my fuel pump died, then the second one died, then it felt like I was driving on 3 cylinders, and then no pumps would work..

I was set to burn my defender down to the rims and get a Hyundai ..

Then I thought about it for a while .. what else could be doing this ...!!!!!

It was the $14.95 fuel relay.

The relay was stuffed, but was still getting some power through for a while, but after putting it on a test bed, it was pulsing .. ON / OFF / ON / OFF thousands of times .. electric motors do not like this, thus the fuel pumps dying very quickly.

This also explains my loss of power, and the pump could never really get to full power, starving the engine at highboost .. problem gone now

Running on 3 cylinders, also explained, in the end the solenoid failed completely, and the pump stopped working, but there was enough suction from the engine to pull fuel through, but not alot, so it would start but splutter..

So, check yeee relays .. I am going to go for another blat in the td5 seeing it goes like a cut snake (a cold one anyway) again!
