Ok, I am considering a classic shape RR.
Mother likes the early 90's Vogues.
I do too but their complex suspension scares the bejaysus out of me. The rest of the vehicle seems easy enough to live with.
I currently do all my own mechanical work & have done for decades
My daily driver is a 1960 Karmann Ghia & I blow away cobwebs with an MGA or a venerable but still capable BMW R100RS. I've even owned several old Jaguars.
Do I qualify for the challenge?
Any advice re inspections?

You will be fine. Rangies are easy after Jags. Just find a nice one then worry about the EAS if it still has it.
Some here have persisted with them and work OK.
My wife wants a 94 LSE soft dash and when we find on I can tell you the first thing to be changed will be well tuned coils and shocks in place of EAS.
You have the same option as a back up.;)

definately get one. if the air bags start giving you grief, chuck them and fit coils all round. If you are a purist and want airbags, they can be easily sourced and replaced, just depends on how much messing around you are willing to put up with.
go 4 it ;)

Depends on how you are going to use it. I had an '93 with EAS and it drove me completely mad because we were driving it through paddocks of tall grass and the sensors kept mucking up. $400 to get a sensor replaced. If it stayed on the bitumen it was fine. The rest of the car is fantastic though, so long as 350Km from a tank doesn't scare you :D
Good to see another person with a Karmann Ghia. I've got a 1960 sedan in pretty good nick for its age. The original 1200 engine has been replaced with an 1800cc jobbie which make it a lot more acceptable, that and the disk brake conversion on the front ....

Thnx for the replies so far.
Spudboy, I restored the KG over 5 years. Finished 11 yrs ago & got left with 3 spare eng & a spare transmission- as you do! They have been gathering dust for 11 years. This is the most boring old car I've ever owned. Hardly anything goes wrong & when it does it takes 10min to fix.
On topic, has anyone seen this vehicle or have any info?
Any suggestions for an on-site inspection?

Low Kms for the age, but it also says "Fully Imported"?!? All RRs are fully imported, so you'd just want to check it is an Australian Delivered car.
If it is from Hong Kong be very careful. They do almost no KMs per year but spend a huge amount of time idling in traffic in salty air. They generally look much "tired-er" than their KMs suggest.
If it's got a full service history that's a bonus. The V8s do not like missing oil changes and get tired and lethargic when the cams wear.
The price is reasonable for those KMs but looks like it's run out of Rego. Haggle like mad!

But please, don't go out of your way for me as this one sounds a bit down at heel & has cloth seats. "Mother" has her heart set on leather trim. She said she misses that smell she got as she dropped herself into our old Series 1 XJ6!

Hi Mate, welcome, ive got a 94 soft dash vogue se. replaced the rear bags last year due to old age. the best thing to do is to get a EAS kicker. this allows you to do all the work on the suspension yourself, its the best tool ive ever bought. IMHO the air suspension is fantastic and makes a great car even better. mines only played up once, all i did was open the glove box get out the kicker and reset it. never missed a beat since. If your so inclined you can reset the ride heights to your own custom settings, ive done this to get an extra 30mm for off road. please dont be put off by the EAS its really a simple system when you get to know it and with regular servicing its very reliable. hope this helps. where about are you??

As you can change it to springs and shocks go the air suspension range Rover.
I had 3 VW Karman Ghias to restore but got married and sold them instead.
I had on type one Karman Ghia--it had been dumped. Asked at local police Station and they told me to take it away as it was being stripped. It had been partly stripped missind one door, etc. And also had 2 type three Karman Ghias--one had a front end prang. Other one was fairly rusty but strait. was hoping to make one from the two. See the odd type one Karmen Ghia, but have not seen the type three Karman Ghia for over 30 years. Should have kept them for future restoration. but they would not have been as good as the RR off road.

Hi, the kicker is the diagnostic tool sold by blackbox solutions. just plug it in under the drivers seat and you can read and clear any fault codes. you can get an upgrade which allows you to reprogram the height sensors as well. I have mucked about with mine to get a better ride. ended up about 15mm higher and dropped the tyre pressures a bit but it rides nice. let us know how you go. GO THE EAS..... :D

I bought a 94 soft dash a little over a year ago, it had had the EAS replaced with coils simply because the compressor needed a new seal. I have refitted the EAS after spotting some air springs cheap on eBay. Could not be happier- the EAS is a great system, and if you have been into jags etc you will no doubt enjoy learning about how the EAS works so that you are confident with it. There is a wealth of info freely available on the net- I gained the knowledge to overhaul my system and make a manual over-ride for redundancy. I hate to hear people reccommend castrating a Rangie by removing the EAS.

I bought a '93 with EAS, and only had it a few months before the EAS started to give me lots of trouble, so I followed the advice and converted it to coils, big mistake. The ride was terribel, well not to my liking, so I had it converted back to to EAS for 3,000 dollars, which included a new air compressor, so it depends on how much to are willing to spend.
I am now taking the Boge shockies off it and putting Bilsteins on it, I reckon then I will be happy.
Regards,
Mike
