My computer crashed recently, after someone inserted their usb thingy into my computer. A friend has managed to re-boot ?? it but everything has been lost :(
I'm a complete novice concerning computers, but have been told that all might not be lost if I get a new drive fitted, then try and salvage stuff from the other drive if it's used as a slave ???

Question is, who and where can I take it to ??? Preferably around the Strathpine areas. Or is there a resident Computer Expert on the forum that fixes these things ?? I'd really appreciate any advice as I'd hate to permanantly lose all my photos etc.

General idea is that if you've got a hard drive problem you should use it as little as possible before you attempt to recover data from it. Either you use it and the lost data is over-written and possibly lost, or the hard drive is just ready for mechanical failure and the next time you turn the computer on is the drive's last gasp.

Unplug the drive, plug in a new one set the computer up then start on recovering your lost data.

You can take the drive to a recovery specialist at huge cost. You can download recovery software at smaller cost and do it yourself.

And then it might not be a hard drive problem.

The way I look at it is that your data is more valuable than any hardware so work to convserve the data first.
