Has anyone here had a tyre carrier from Scorpion Racing? Specifically the one with the highlift mount. If so, how did you find them, and how much did it set you back?

Aaron,

Haven't used one presonally, but contruction wise it seems OK. Top and bottom mounts (i.e. mounts both on the capping and chassis cross member) are better (stronger) than bottom mounts only (i.e. kaymar).

There have been cases of early kaymar type mounts braking the chassis plate off...

It also looks like it swings out with the rear door, so that's convenient. The only thing I'd be careful about with the high lift mount ones, is that it will restrict the maximum size tyre you can put on it (may be something like 32 or 33 inch). You'd want to check what that is, and so long as you don't want to go larger, should be good.

The other point with Scorpion racing stuff, is there there is talk they've gone under again, (confirmed? - not sure).

There should be stock in Aus still (check with Rovacraft), but may be difficult to get one at a later stage.

Cheers

Bojan

Gday Aaron
I bought a Bearmach wheel carrier from these guys Karcraft Australia (http://www.karcraft.com.au/home.php) and I very happy with it but dosent have the hi-lift bracket.

Also I have bought alot of stuff of these guys and they have great prices and delivery speed.

Here is a picture of the wheel carrier on page 25 http://www.bearmach.com/partscatalogues/new_accessories/02_Def_12th_accessories.pdf.

They may also have the carrier you want.Goodluck

We have a Scorpion Racing one from Rovacraft. A week after returning from our Madigan trip last year it broke at the top bar behind the wheel. Has since been replaced free of charge and the newer one is slightly different due to some strengthening. Fingers crossed, but before another major trip such as the last, I think I will be adding some more webbing to it. High Lift mount is fine, but yes, you are limited to standard tyres (235/85/16) which is fine with me.

g`day numpty.

Are you confident in the changes they have made are actually stronger?

I've got one and it's quite good but have never used the high lift mount although I have a hi-lift jack:D
Cost about 600 from memory from Rovacraft ...... which is not what it should be these days!:o

Aaron, to be frank, since I've replaced it, I've hardly been at home for enough time to scratch myself. The next three months will only see me home for two weeks as well.........so it will be a while, with all the other goings on, before I can check it out properly.

Luckily we have no trip planned until next year.
