Hi All

I will be picking up a 1996 130 HCPU hopefully next weekend. The problem is I have a holiday booked on Moreton at Easter so I need to install a second battery fast!

Can anyone post up a pic of the second battery install? What size auxillary is best to fit in the box under the passenger sit? Is there enough room for the second battery and isolater? Are there any alternative spots? My only thought was in the tray.

Thanks for your help

Andrew

Put it in with the other battery. Just turn the original 90 degrees and install the aux bat beside it. This is what I did in my '96 130 , enough room for 2 n70z case size batteries , solenoid and air con relays etc which were moved from the side of the box and swung around to the front of the box. Add a couple of bits of wood as packers / spacers , two new holes for the hold down bracket and your in business. It all fits , just. Sorry no pics , i'm not that savvy with all that sort of stuff.

Standard battery turned 90 degrees and packing used in lower section of battery compatment.
Two 12 dollar battery switches used as isillator switches as they are cheap and take up less room.
Air con relays as standard.
Second battery is slightly smaller , but there has been on problems in ten years.
Some people choose to do alot more work and fit two n70z type batteries.

I wasn't comfortable with the height of the box if I packed the base and didn't want the lid too close to the terminals (not sure of the height of Ron's's batteries and if he enlarged the box lid?) . Previously I had a start battery of 250 x 170 x 220 high and a Deka AGM (170 x 130 x 180 "power sports") next to it sideways. The amp.hour capacity just wasn't enough even though it survived discharge to 7v repeatedly. I ended up enlarging the box which allowed me to fit a second 250 x 170 x 220 battery (both turned sideways) with the auxilliary having an 80 A.H capacity). This should just allow 2 or 3 days fridge running time without starting the car (if I keep the Engel on 1 to 1.5)

Thanks very much to all that replied and for posting pictures.

My first concern was the limiting size of the original box under the seat. I like the idea of expanding the box to accommodate a larger battery.

I did have a 100amp/hr battery in my Rangie which would run my 80 litre waeco for 3 days.

Will just have to wait and see.

Cheers
Andrew
