My defender 1994 300 TDI 130 is stock with 7.50 x 16s on the stock 6.5 inch wide rims.
I am due for new rubber.
I usually get the cheapest 7.50x16 tyre I can find and get that shoved on.
I need up grade for two reasons.
Due to a prievous accident many years ago two of my five rims are slightly bent.
I am now finding my usage for the vehicle has changed and grip in mud and diff clearence is now a issue.
I was thinking going all the way and get maybe Silver stone 285/75/R16 muddies.
That means I need wider rims ?
Anthony Johnson of British 4 wd has steel white spoke landrover wheels for a good price...8 inch wide...dont know the off set.
I know this has been beaten to death a bit........but it is still not clear.
Will 285/75/16 fit with out lift.....HCPU body.
Will I need extended mud guard flares.
Is the gear ratio change of the bigger wheels going too hard to live with.
Steering lock affected????????
I know disco wheels fit , but there seems to be legal issuses and a loss of steering lock( new steelies are cheaper too)
The price of the steelies and Silverstones may be with in my reach price wise.
Any other combinations of wheels and tyres which you think may be good for me I would be interested in hearing about remembering the money side of things is tight.
